Thousands of Free Ultimate Rewards Points!

This deal is only good through Saturday, so act fast!

A reader tipped me off to this over the weekend (thanks!), but I just now got around to checking it out.  Sorry for the delay!

The idea is to go through the Ultimate Rewards Mall to  Once there, buy up to $700 in Free After Rebate downloadable software.  You will get 4 points per dollar from the Ultimate Rewards Mall and another 5 points if you pay with your Chase Ink card or another 1 point if you pay with any other point earning credit card.  If you go all-in for $700, this means that you will earn 6300 Free Ultimate Rewards points with your Ink card or 3500 points with another card.

Staples has an amazingly easy “Easy Rebate” system.  Once you purchase the software, they send you a rebate link via email.  You click the link, fill out a little bit of info and you’re done.

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Go to Staples via the Ultimate Rewards Mall:

Step 2: Add up to 5 Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2012 to your cart:

TIP: Search for item 368665

Step 3: Add up to 10 AVG Internet Security 2012 to your cart:

TIP: Search for item 369321:

Step 4: Check out

TIP 1: If you have a Chase Ink card that gives 5X for office supplies, use it!

TIP 2: Your state may charge sales tax. If you know someone in a state that doesn’t charge sales tax for internet orders (CA, NH, etc.), then set their address as the delivery address and no tax will be charged.  These are download only purchases anyway, so nothing will really be delivered.  I couldn’t think of anyone’s address to put in, so instead I picked “deliver to store” and picked a store in California that I’ll be close to on a trip next month.  Of course, there won’t really be anything to pick up.

Step 5: Submit Easy Rebates

You will receive an email from Staples with a link in it for submitting the rebate form.  It’s easy!

NOTE: If you make all of the purchases at once, you only need to submit one rebate per product even if you buy multiple copies of each product.  Staples keeps track of how many you bought.

TIP: The AVG software rebate can be changed from a Visa gift card to a check!  See screen shot:

    • CJC462: Sorry to hear it sold out! I’m surprised that downloads have a limit to how many they’ll sell. I’ll try to report similar deals as they come up. In the future, hopefully I’ll report on it sooner!

deltagoldflyer: Boy, I hope so! I’ll know for sure soon. 🙂

  1. FAR (free after rebate) software deals go quick at Staples, as people use these to ‘cash out’ their Staples rewards checks earned on previous purchases and ink rebates…. Gotta be quick on the draw for these!

  2. Speaking of that, don’t forget to sign up for the Staples Rewards membership… Might as well earn the free rebate credit there too, as it will be based on the ‘purchase’ price.

  3. Like sruly, the rebate form stated 1 and 1. But does this mean I will actually get 5 and 10? BTW – I was able to change the payment of both to a check

    • From FatWallet:

Q: If I buy multiple copies of a sku(product) with a rebate in a single transaction do I have to submit the rebate multiple times?

A: No, you only need to submit the rebate once. The rebate system knows from the transaction the quantity you purchased.

  4. Thanks for the tip. I just finished my $700 worth of purchase using ink-bold card. Can I purchase $700.00 worth of same product again to get another 6300 UR points?

@al613: That code for free ream of papers didn’t work for me.

  5. @shoaib It showed for me that it accepted the coupon, but the price of paper did not go to $0. So, I bought it anyways, called CS and within a minute they refunded cost of paper to cc.

  6. @sboaib I doubt it due to the address. It’s something I wouldn’t even want to risk either since it’s $700 you might have to pay back if the rebates don’t go through.

  7. @CJC462, purchased mine like thirty minutes ago.. not sure what the problem is for you. Did you try using an incognito window on Chrome or something similar to it on Firefox?

  8. Well the staples rebate website is down for maintenance right now but I have placed my order. It also gave me rebate tracking number. Too bad I don’t have the CIB. Will have to do with CSP now. Thanks for the post

  9. What I don’t see is, where do I increase the quantity on the rebate? Is that automatically related to the order number, or do I need to file for multiple rebates?

    • Michael: Thanks for checking the rebate terms. I’ve been told that the quantity is handled automatically. So you should only have to file once per product, not 10 times for 1 and 5 times for the other.

  10. “Dyni says:

Both rebates can be switched to checks, which is what I did.”

Dyni, How did you do that?

  11. Just got in on this too. Hopefully it works smoothly.

@caveman, on the page showing the two prepaid cards you’ll receive there is a button that will show other forms of rebate options. That is where you can select a check.

  12. Thanks for replying all – so point of clarification – the check is just a regular check that you go into the bank and ‘cash in’ ?

  13. Because of the advise of Staples CS, I filled out rebate form for downloadable items right after I purchased them. Got confirmation right away.

  14. I placed my order about 10:00pm last night, I only got the order confirmation email. I click on the tracking order information and it says in the status field”Researching”. Anybody seen this?

  15. ok, I didn’t choose to get rebate in check, while filling out the rebate form online. Is there a way, I can still request rebate in form of check by calling CS?? has anyone tried this?

    • Good news for anyone worried about only filling out the rebate form once or twice. I just received this email from Staples:

Good news! We’ve started processing your rebate(s) for:

    • shoaib: Great idea. I just tried a web chat to change my rebate to a check. Here was the answer:

Agent: Unfortunately, I am unable to make changes to the records at this time.
Agent: If you wanted to try contacting us in a few days, we should be able to change it to a check for you.

  16. FM: I also had a chat with CS (Kevin), He told me that they can change the mode of rebate payment to check after 72 hrs of rebate form submission. Hopefully, I will have it changed to check on Monday.

  17. FM: I need to buy some GC to complete minimum spend on chase sapphire. Is there a way I can earn some points on my way? I know I can get 1.4% CB via bigcrumbs, but I am more interested in 10x UR points. Just checking, if that’s something I can get.

    • shadab: I’m assuming you mean bank gift cards (Amex, Visa, Mastercard)? If so, no, I don’t know of any options with the Sapphire that are better than Big Crumbs. You can get 4X through UR Mall / Staples, but have to pay $6 for each $100 card. Not a great deal unless using an Ink card to get 5X+4X=9X (really 8X when you account for miles you don’t get when spending the gift card). With the Sapphire you get the annual 7% dividend, so the 4X becomes 4.28X. $6 for 4.28 points = 1.4 cents per point. That’s not horrible, but remember you would be stuff with a whole bunch of $100 cards you need to spend.

If you were OK with merchant gift cards, you can buy Barnes & Noble for 10X. Through UR Mall / there are a bunch of merchant cards you can get for 5X with a small shipping fee. Of course, there’s at 40X if you can figure out what to do with a million magazines 🙂

  18. @frequentmiler, can you provide a date to when you bought the SW as a data point to see how long it takes to process the rebate. Also did choose CA or NH as your delivery address while it’s not? Apparently some peeps on FW said that staples had questions as to why they were shipping the rebate check to a different address than the delivery address.

  19. I just received a call from staples questioning why I choose a delivery to CA while I live in CT. She said it just seemed odd and if I intended that way. I said yes, and just confirmed whether my rebate would be Okay, as that’s what I’m really interested in.

    • Mike: Interesting! It sounds like they’re just trying to make sure you didn’t make a mistake. I bought the software on Thursday (the same day I posted this). I had put in a store in California as the ship to location for pickup.

  20. Got a VM from Staples: Call them within three business days or the order will be cancelled. Called, and confirmed that I will be in CA this weekend, hence the CA delivery. Was told that I should get the delivery e-mail within 24 hours. Order still shown as “Researching” on the website.

  21. I’m not sure if this has been mentioned but I noticed the T&C for Staples at the UR mall state:

“Shopping cart must be empty prior to accessing Staples through this site to be eligible.”

In short, be sure to clear you cart at Staples before clicking thru from the UR mall. Also, I always use separate browser, clear cookies, close and re-start that browser to ensure no lingering cookies or competing click thru referrals.

  22. @HikerT Thanks! Good thing I used an incognito window! Phew! 🙂 On another note, I got a call a few hours ago asking if I wanted to have the softwares e-mailed to me or if I wanted to pick it up at a store. I asked them to e-mail it to me and now I have all these key codes.. *fingers crossed* that the rebates come before the interest starts accumulating on the CC…

  23. Can someone please point me to the limit/per household. I went through the T&C but could not find the 5 limit for the 1st item and 10 limit for the 2nd.

    • david h: Here is how to find the rebate T&C (It took me forever to find this too): In, go to the product. Look for the underlined word “rebate” and click on it. On the new page that comes up, click the button “Select Form”. Scroll down and view “Promotion Details”

  24. I also received voicemail from staples telling me order is on hold and will be cancelled in 3 biz days if I dont call back. Will have to wait until Monday as the rep indicated weekday only hours of their cust svc center.

    • For those who’s status says “researching”, I expect that they are on hold until Staples’ employees get to work on them on Monday. I expect some of you will get phone calls then.

  25. I bought the Mcafee software, item 398466, because the other 2 were sold out. Then when I read the rebate rules, it said only 1 rebate per household. I bought 5 copies. The email with the activation keys also said no refunds. Any ideas on how to limit my losses?

  26. I called this morning and was told my phone number didnt match the cred card co number on their records. Once that was straightened out the order went through.

  27. Had I read the terms more closely, I would have chosen the boxed version so that I could resell them at my work. Though the shipping cost would have to be recouped which I think would have been very doable.

@frequentmiler, I bet that’s what you’re planning to do with your copies?

  28. I also received a call on Friday from Staples saying that my order was on hold. Called today and was told they just needed to confirm my email address and that I had placed the order. Hopefully the delay does not cost me the points. I do have confirmation that the order was placed prior to the deadline, so that should be sufficient.

  29. Interesting data point for you all… I placed my order on Thursday. I live in Ohio, did ship to CA. All weekend long my order said “Researching”. Got a call on Monday to confirm email delivery when I picked “CA” for ship to address. Confirmed the order and a few hours later got the download instructions (Monday afternoon). The charges have never hit my credit card (used Chase Freedom). Not sure if it will soon or not, but has thus far (but either have the points).

  30. That is what I am thinking… My rebate status still says “Validation in progress” and I have yet to receive any UR Points. I am guessing I will not be charged, will not get the UR points and will not get the rebate, but will get a boat load of software for nothing.
