Second chance for free points from Staples, today only!

This deal is good today only, so act fast!

Staples has a few more FAR (free after rebate) downloads available this week.  By going through a shopping portal to buy these, you can earn points or cash back while also putting extra spend on your credit card, for free.  I’ll soon post about the new deals, but for those who missed out a couple of weeks ago on this deal, here’s another chance to buy Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security for free (after rebate).  You have to act fast since this deal is for today only.  And, please note, this is the same software I wrote about a couple of weeks ago so don’t buy it a second time since rebates are limited to 5 per household.

UPDATE: A few readers have notified me that this is a different rebate number so it should work again even if you bought these last time around!  I’ll give it a try and update the post soon.

UPDATE2: I just ordered 5 copies and turned in the easy rebate.  As far as I can tell, this is going to work even though I bought the same item a couple of weeks ago!

Staples has an amazingly easy “Easy Rebate” system. Once you purchase the software, they send you a rebate link via email. You click the link, fill out a little bit of info and you’re done.  Of course you do need to wait about two months to get your rebate…

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Go to Staples via the Ultimate Rewards Mall:

(Note: if you do note have access to the Ultimate Rewards Mall, search for Staples on evreward.com and pick out the shopping portal that gives the best rebate, miles, or points for your situation)

Step 2: Add up to 5 Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 2012 to your cart:

TIP: Search for item 368665

Step 3: Check out

TIP 1: If you have a Chase Ink card that gives 5X for office supplies, use it!

TIP 2: Your state may charge sales tax. If you know someone in a state that doesn’t charge sales tax for internet orders (CA, NH, etc.), then set their address as the delivery address and no tax will be charged. These are download only purchases anyway, so nothing will really be delivered. I couldn’t think of anyone’s address to put in, so instead I picked “deliver to store” and picked a store in California that I’ll be close to on a trip next month. Of course, there won’t really be anything to pick up.

Step 4: Submit Easy Rebates

You will receive an email from Staples with a link in it for submitting the rebate form. It’s easy!

NOTE: If you make all of the purchases at once, you only need to submit one rebate per product even if you buy multiple copies of each product. Staples keeps track of how many you bought.

TIP: The rebate can be changed from a Visa gift card to a check! See screen shot from when I bought these a few weeks ago:

    • Michael A: Rebates are per household for each product. So you can buy 5 copies of this specific product and get rebates for all 5. Each different product with a rebate has different rules about how many rebates can be redeemed per household. Note: you cannot buy 5 download versions and 5 boxed CD versions of the same product with the hope of doing 10 rebates. Those are considered the same and so you can only do a total of 5.

  1. Thanks Mr. FrequentMiler,

So it looks like the max spend is $325 then. Not bad at all, but I wish it were $3250 🙂

  2. I did this yesterday afternoon (set pickup to CA instead of the state I live in order to avoid taxes like you say) and when I check the status of my order, I get a message saying that there is a problem with my order. Specifically, it says: “we’re sorry, but problems with your order may prevent us from delivering it on time.” Then the actual status says “researching.” Did you or anyone else experience this? How soon did you receive a download link for the product? (I haven’t gotten one yet) Is it an issue or will they work it out?
Thanks in advance for any info.

  3. I was told by a staples agent online that you can qualify for this rebate even if you did the other one because they are different rebates covering different time periods.

    • Dan: Thanks. Another reader just alerted me to this as well. I’ll update the post once I’ve tried it.

Random: Last time a number of people got that status as well. They might try calling you at whatever contact number you gave them. Make sure to take the call (or call them back) and confirm that it is a legitimate purchase.

Michael A: That’s true that this deal is limited to $325, but Staples seems to do this regularly so the numbers should add up nicely over time!

  4. Same issue here with the “researching” message. Sent my order to a friend in CA to avoid duty. Anyone know if you need to call Staples to clear this?

  5. Thank you, I’m loving this blog. Downloading the software isn’t required to get the rebate is it? I took up the offer for the quickbooks software and downloading would take forever on my slow connection. Also, have you gotten a rebate by check from staples before? I’ve heard some reports before about bad checks or how they come as a postcard and not in an envelope, making them easier to get lost/stolen. Any idea?

  6. I just bought one copy of this software and submitted a rebate. I have 2 questions:

    1) Can I purchase 4 copies (4*$65) and submit again rebate for me?
    2) Is there a limit for household purchases? I would like to buy the same soft for my wife, but we live in the same address

  7. Has anyone received their rebate checks from the last time this deal was available? Just wondering how long you have to float $325.

  8. I got the same “researching” message. Used store in a tax free state for delivery- could that be the source of the problem given it is a download and not an actual physical delivery on item #368665.
Also I would also like to know if actually downloading the product is needed or not.

  9. If I use different Shipping/Rebate check addresses (family), but the same Billing address; can I double-dip on this deal? Or do they verify the Billing address on orders to see if it matches another order?

    • CodeAdam10: I don’t know. Personally, I wouldn’t risk it, but that’s just me.

Joe: I believe that the software vendor provides the rebate money. Staples sells at a discount in order to make the overall purchase come to zero.

Rachel: Double check that you are looking at the download version of the software not the boxed software. An easy way is to search for: 368665

  10. @Saurabh: Depends on how you look at it. I paid $27.50 in taxes, happily, as I’m netting 3,175 UR points – definitely worth it. Besides, you can easily sell this for $10 on Craigslist and make up for your taxes (I ordered the boxed version).

  11. I’m almost positive you don’t have to download the product for it to be validated as a sale. I recently purchased downloadable software from Staples and they sent me an email link that day. I didn’t actually download the software until several weeks later (if you actually want the software, don’t do this because I found the links expire), after the purchase had posted to my credit card account.

I say “I’m almost positive” because as always, YMMV.

  12. My question is will Staples.com cancel your order if you do not pick up in store? Anyone can set the pickup to CA, but most places have a “shelf life” for online orders if not picked up.
For those that did this the first time, did you get your rebate when you didn’t pick up?

  13. Last time my husband and I both ordered the software, and we both got the bonus Ultimate Rewards points. However, we have not received the rebates yet. I’m contemplating whether to do it for both of us again this time, or just one of us since it’s supposed to be one per household. Any suggestions?

  14. Thanks! I found it. It told me I only needed to do the rebate once since it’s the same product. So even though I ordered two, it looks like it’s only one rebate. Does that seem right to you?

Rebate 1: Get a $65 Visa (R) Prepaid Card on Trend Micro Titanium Maximum Security 3 User (SKUs 368172, 368665) at Staples.com ONLY Submission received.
    Validation in progress. Rebate Check

  15. Is the rebate Tracking Number Sent in a separate email? i Wenz through the Link and put my rebate info in but it doesnt find my rebate yet. Is there a Delay before you can Start Tracking it?

  16. There is also a “Get a $45 Visa (R) Prepaid Card on Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 1 User (SKUs 368176, 368660, 368652) at Staples”, which make it FAR. Limit 10…

  17. Biggles, I got in on that deal yesterday. Do you (or does anyone else know) if we can get 10 of SKU 368176 and 5 of SKU 368665?

  18. You need to view the rebate form (keep clicking rebate or rebate form until you get to the form itself). It’s in the terms and conditions, for SKU 368276, it says “Limit 10 rebates name/address/household.”

And I guess I answered my own question. On top of getting 10x 368276 yesterday, I got 5x 368665 today. That was an easy 775 in spending.

  19. My assumption is that the two products, and the two rebate codes, are different – therefore you can do both. But it’s just an assumption until the checks arrive…

  20. I called them about the “researching” issue. Sounds like they research some orders at end of day to make sure their systems are working properly. I’m guessing when there is a run on any given item they may hold up processing to be sure it’s not a website error. She processed mine over the phone and then asked which email I wanted them to send the download links to. I’m guessing if you just wait it will process.

    • Regarding the $45 free after rebate item, I’ll post about that tomorrow. That one is not a “today only” deal so I didn’t want to confuse things more than necessary today.

  21. I think it can take a month+ to get the rebates. My rebates from last time are “validated” … whatever that means 🙂

  22. Just looked at return policy. If somehow this goes south, downloadable software is NOT returnable! This gives me pause…

    Return Policy

    Easy Returns.
If you’re not 100% satisfied with your Staples purchase, return it for any reason.

Software: Unopened software that we currently sell may be returned for a full refund at any time. Opened software can only be exchanged for the same title version. Downloadable Software is not returnable.

  23. @melissAA: Staples has a good history of honoring their rebates as advertised, unless someone abuses their T&C. I would not worry.

I am curious if I should wait ’til tomorrow to buy the 10x of #368660, as I did the 5x #368172 today. But there is also the chance even the downloadable version of #368660 will be OOS by tomorrow! Any suggestions, anyone? 🙂

  24. I have 10x 368660 in the cart and 2 hours to do it, but couldn’t find where the max of 10 came from per the posts above? I’ve got that too good to be true vibe… that’s $450 in spend and 1,800 UR points.

  25. Thanks FrequentMiler!
Just ordered two downloadables, 5 each and immediately was able to request my rebate check. Couldn’t have been simpler. Thanks for all the tips!

    L O V I N G Y O U R D E A L S ! ! !

  26. In for 5x 368665, no tax online in MD. Is it correct that I only complete one Easy Rebate for all 5? Read that twice, thought I’d confirm. BIG THANKS!

  27. Ok, so I bought the $325 worth. So I should get 4x for using the UR Mall. That comes to 1,300 points right? Then I got 5x for using my Ink bold card. So that’s 6,500 UR points right? Is my math/logic correct?

  28. Just want to ask this again: Is it correct that I only complete one Easy Rebate for all 5? Read that twice, thought I’d confirm. BIG THANKS!

  29. I haven’t gotten an email with the rebate code nor can I find it on my receipt. I’m a little worried, even though I’m quite certain I purchased the 3-user version that was eligible for a rebate. Anyone else have this problem?

  30. Kevin,

When did you make your purchase? The 3-user copy was only free after rebate on 3/5. The single user is available from 3/4-3/24(I believe).

When you had them it up on your screen it should have said “Free”

  31. My receipt says 3/5, but Staples, who I called today, shows it as 3/6 (maybe it was close to midnight Eastern). When I submitted the order, the rebate deduction was showing and the total cost was listed as free. In any case, the CSR gave me the rebate no. and I submitted it today. She also gave me the customer service no. for the Rebate Center if there is any problem. Fingers crossed!
