Thousands of new, free Ultimate Reward points!

This deal is good until March 24th. Even though this sounds similar to items I blogged about before, this is a different product with a different rebate!

The idea here is to go through the Ultimate Rewards Mall to Once there, buy 10 copies of this “Free After Rebate” downloadable software product for $45 each. You will get 4 points per dollar from the Ultimate Rewards Mall and another 5 points if you pay with your Chase Ink card or another 1 point if you pay with a standard point earning credit card. This means that you will earn 4,050 Free Ultimate Rewards points with your Ink card or 2,250 points with another card. See Preparing for Miles for more info about the Ink and other cards.

Staples has an amazingly easy “Easy Rebate” system. Once you purchase the software, they send you a rebate link via email. You click the link, fill out a little bit of info and you’re done. Note that you will have to wait a while, though. It may take as much as a few months to receive your check.

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Go to Staples via the Ultimate Rewards Mall:

Step 2: Add ten copies of Trend Micro Internet Security 1 User for Windows or Mac to your cart:

TIP: Search for item 368660

Step 3: Check out

TIP 1: If you have a Chase Ink card that gives 5X for office supplies, use it!

TIP 2: Your state may charge sales tax. If you know someone in a state that doesn’t charge sales tax for internet orders (CA, NH, etc.), then set their address as the delivery address and no tax will be charged. This is a download only purchase anyway, so nothing will really be delivered. I picked “deliver to store” and picked a store in California that I’ll be close to on a trip next month. Of course, there won’t really be anything to pick up.

Step 4: Submit Easy Rebates

You will receive an email from Staples with a link in it for submitting the rebate form. It’s easy!

TIP 1: Even though you bought 10 copies, you only have to fill out one rebate form. Note that it can take 6 to 8 weeks (or longer) to get your rebate.

TIP 2: The software rebate can be changed from a Visa gift card to a check! See screen shot:

  1. […] The Frequent Miler tells us about a way to earn lots of free Ultimate Rewards points by going through the UR Mall and buying Staples Free After Rebate products. He has done a few posts about this over the past couple of weeks, but this is the one that I took advantage of. It will be nice to get some free UR points, but the main reason I did this was to get $450 closer to the $5000 minimum spend on my Amex Business Gold card. Take a look and see if this is something that could help you out too. Details HERE. […]

  1. So happy I got my Ink Bold. Pretty much getting 5x on everything I put on it to meet the 5K spend and saving my other spend for other cards. Ca-ching!

  2. Thanks for posting this deal and the one yesterday. My ink bold arrived in the mail yesterday.. just in time! I love getting free miles and helping meet spending requirements in the process.

  3. I use the Ultimate Rewards mall a lot. A few weeks ago I did this with software at Staples. It has NOT shown up in my Ultimate Rewards mall as a purchase. I only spent $35 to try it out and usually after a few weeks I can see it in my summary. Guess I will wait till after my statement and see if they will manually credit me or tell me “sorry that is a special promo and doesn’t count!”.

  4. Oh crap! I bought 10 but do I get a rebate for only one?
The rebate form doesn’t show how much I’ll get back. Please help!!!

  5. Just checked with staples, even though I ordered 10, the rebate form will show up for only 1. Once the order is validated it will show the right amount.

  6. This deal is especially awesome for me as the Ink card I applied for had a 0% interest offer for a year (I got the Ink Classic, not Bold). So between yesterday and today I have spent $775 on software that I will get reimbursed for, I will earn 7750 UR points, and my charges are on a 0% interest card so I don’t even have to pay it off before receiving the rebates in a few months! Plus earned $775 towards Premier rewards status on Staples, which means I’m almost there for 2012.

  7. Jennifer: I did the same! However, my card is a charge card and it must be paid in full each month. I may end up having to dip in to the checking account and pay the card off prior to the rebate checks coming. You may want to double check if thats the case. You dont want to leave the balance on there and get hit with huge fees.

  8. Hi! I really appreciate how thorough your explanations are!

One question-you say to purchase ten copies, but in Step Two you say to add just ONE copy to your cart and check out.

Do you mean that we should only buy one copy at a time, and complete 10 separate transactions? Or is it ok to buy ten at once?

    Thanks so much!

    • modernhaus: Sorry, that was a typo! I’ve fixed it to now say “Add ten copies…” (that’s what I get for copying and pasting from prior posts…)

      Michael Gulseth: Thanks!

jerlovestotravel: You have to click the rebate link and then click the link after “Product”.

  9. Moderahus—pretty sure you need to add 10 copies at once. The “1” comes from the product name.

FrequentMiler: This was probably your best post on your blog that I have seen. I am new to the travel hacking scene, and always heard about “dumpster diving” for cups, orderin 1 picture from Shutterfly and the like, but this is the first one I have seen that really honors those exploits even if it is only 4050 miles/points. It is still free! (Wonder how long until Staples shuts this down….)

  10. FM,
Where are the limits posted on how many units you can purchase with rebate? Just curious how you came to 10, as it isn’t listed in the promotional terms that I can see.

  11. This is why I love this blog. Thank you!

Now I just have to wait for my statement to close so that I can float the $450 longer … hurry up! :p

  12. Do we have a turnaround time on these rebates? This has been popping up a lot lately, just want to know how long I have to float a balance.

Is there even confirmation yet that rebates have been received?

    • thomas: Somewhere in the rebate process I remember it said to allow 6 to 8 weeks. Yes, you will receive an email confirmation in a day or two that the rebate form has been received.

      Jenny: Thanks!

econjon: With a prior rebate I tried to retroactively change it. I was told to wait until I received confirmation that the rebate was approved and then to call to ask for a change. We’ll see if that works.

  13. If I specify store pickup for software downloads. Can I submit rebate before I pickup from store? Also What is there to pickup at store if it is a download copy?

  14. I believed you have found your “wheel”, something you can do over and over again. In fact, this is better than expected. I am a big fan. 1. get free points. 2. meet minium spending 3. get free stuffs to sell on ebay 4. become a Staples Premier member.

    Love it.

  15. Thanks. Just did this. Not sure about the UR points since I needed to meet a spend on my US Airways Mastercard. It did, however get me $450 closer to the extra 15k bonus miles on that card. (had to spend $1250/month for 3 months)

  16. It reads:
    “Limit: 10 rebates per name/address/household”

Does this wording suggest that the rebate is limited to ten per household, or ten per person per household?

  17. @Rik most of these offer are per name/address. Does your wife have another mailing address she can use to have the rebate sent to? Parents or siblings or work?

  18. I received a voice mail from Staples this morning asking me to call them or the order would be cancelled within 24 hours. Any ideas?

  19. Mike, I got the same voice mail. I called and they just wanted to verify the items in my order. Then they were able to “release” them. I got an email 12 hours later confirming that my rebate checks were on the way.

  20. I also got the call. They wanted to confirm the address. The address I gave didn’t match the one on the credit card.

  21. I added 5 the first time and I just added another 5 this time. In case others want to come back and get the rest of the rebates.

  22. Curious about the 6-8 week period. Doesn’t the interest accumulated on the Ink card negate the points earned? (unless you can pay is off)

  23. I’m looking to duplicate the “no state sales tax” for California orders / deliveries / pickup through, but can’t get it to work. I tried using a CA address as delivery, tried a CA store as pickup. (Same situation, free after rebate downloadable software). Any hints or ideas?

  24. To answer my own Q for it works with a NH “shipping” address but not CA. Weird. Would only work with downloadable software to get the free after rebate though.

  25. Thanks for posting this. I have a couple of auto loans to apply for in the coming weeks so I can’t afford the extra inquiries right now for the Ink bold but did this using the Sapphire card. The added points are nice and heck I can even make use of the software (though maybe not the 20 copies done through mine and wife’s account!)

  26. So if I live in a state that does charge sales tax, I can have this “delivered” to a state, ie, New Hampshire, that does not charge sales tax – and I would never have to go to this store for any reason?

  27. Any Idea if I will get the 2x miles when shopping through the mileage plus mall? It says its not valid on promotional offers from staples?
