Thousands of new, free Ultimate Reward points!

64

This deal is good until March 24th. Even though this sounds similar to items I blogged about before, this is a different product with a different rebate!

The idea here is to go through the Ultimate Rewards Mall to Staples.com. Once there, buy 10 copies of this “Free After Rebate” downloadable software product for $45 each. You will get 4 points per dollar from the Ultimate Rewards Mall and another 5 points if you pay with your Chase Ink card or another 1 point if you pay with a standard point earning credit card. This means that you will earn 4,050 Free Ultimate Rewards points with your Ink card or 2,250 points with another card. See Preparing for Miles for more info about the Ink and other cards.

Staples has an amazingly easy “Easy Rebate” system. Once you purchase the software, they send you a rebate link via email. You click the link, fill out a little bit of info and you’re done. Note that you will have to wait a while, though. It may take as much as a few months to receive your check.

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Go to Staples via the Ultimate Rewards Mall:

Step 2: Add ten copies of Trend Micro Internet Security 1 User for Windows or Mac to your cart:

TIP: Search for item 368660

Step 3: Check out

TIP 1: If you have a Chase Ink card that gives 5X for office supplies, use it!

TIP 2: Your state may charge sales tax. If you know someone in a state that doesn’t charge sales tax for internet orders (CA, NH, etc.), then set their address as the delivery address and no tax will be charged. This is a download only purchase anyway, so nothing will really be delivered. I picked “deliver to store” and picked a store in California that I’ll be close to on a trip next month. Of course, there won’t really be anything to pick up.

Step 4: Submit Easy Rebates

You will receive an email from Staples with a link in it for submitting the rebate form. It’s easy!

TIP 1: Even though you bought 10 copies, you only have to fill out one rebate form. Note that it can take 6 to 8 weeks (or longer) to get your rebate.

TIP 2: The software rebate can be changed from a Visa gift card to a check! See screen shot:

Any Idea if I will get the 2x miles when shopping through the mileage plus mall? It says its not valid on promotional offers from staples?

FrequentMiler

Michael: I haven’t tried it, but it shouldn’t be a problem. The UR mall has the same restriction, but gives points anyway.

Carol

So if I live in a state that does charge sales tax, I can have this “delivered” to a state, ie, New Hampshire, that does not charge sales tax – and I would never have to go to this store for any reason?

FrequentMiler

Carol: Correct.

Thanks for posting this. I have a couple of auto loans to apply for in the coming weeks so I can’t afford the extra inquiries right now for the Ink bold but did this using the Sapphire card. The added points are nice and heck I can even make use of the software (though maybe not the 20 copies done through mine and wife’s account!)

To answer my own Q for Officedepot.com it works with a NH “shipping” address but not CA. Weird. Would only work with downloadable software to get the free after rebate though.

MJLouise

I’m looking to duplicate the “no state sales tax” for California orders / deliveries / pickup through Officedepot.com, but can’t get it to work. I tried using a CA address as delivery, tried a CA store as pickup. (Same situation, free after rebate downloadable software). Any hints or ideas?

Can I use my cc to purchase for the FAR deal for my parents who live in a different address?

C-lee

Curious about the 6-8 week period. Doesn’t the interest accumulated on the Ink card negate the points earned? (unless you can pay is off)

FrequentMiler

C-lee: Yes, that’s true. If you can’t pay off your credit card bill entirely, this approach is probably not a good idea for you.

Michael

Dumb question: If I live in MA and have it “delivered” to a NH address, will the rebate go to me in MA or will it go to the NH address?

FrequentMiler

Michael: when you fill out the rebate form you’ll put in the address of where to deliver the check.

update – received bonus ultimate rewards. Rebate status is still processing.

[…] The Frequent Miler tells us about a way to earn lots of free Ultimate Rewards points by going through the UR Mall and buying Staples Free After Rebate products. He has done a few posts about this over the past couple of weeks, but this is the one that I took advantage of. It will be nice to get some free UR points, but the main reason I did this was to get $450 closer to the $5000 minimum spend on my Amex Business Gold card. Take a look and see if this is something that could help you out too. Details HERE. […]

That was very easy. Thanks for the great tip! Looking forward to hearing about folks’ checks clearing.
