Staples free after mail-in rebate software UPDATE: not worth the hassle

18

Valid through 8/17

UPDATE: Readers have pointed out some serious “gotchas” with this one. Please read the rebate T&C carefully if you plan to proceed.

Via Staples.com, Get QuickBooks Enhanced Payroll 2013 free after mail-in rebate. The point is not that you necessarily want this software, but that it is a reasonably good way to increase credit card spend, especially if you use a card that gets 5 points per dollar at office supply stores. Even better, this can be a great way to cash out Staples Rewards.

Keep in mind that this isn’t really free even after the rebate because you will have to pay sales tax in most states. You can get some of that sales tax refunded by starting your purchase in a cash back portal. Both uPromise and ShopDiscover currently offer 5% cash back at Staples. You can also try to sell the software on eBay to potentially make a profit. Normally you can resell software to potentially make a profit, but in this case the software has to be activated before you can get the rebate.

Note these important restrictions:
**Requires an annual payroll subscription, Internet access, Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) and QuickBooks Simple Start, Pro or Premier 2010 or newer, or Enterprise 10.0 or higher (all sold separately) updated to the most current maintenance release.

Limit one rebate per customer.

You have to activate this software to get the rebate, I think you have to have a previous version of quick books to get the enhanced Payroll version. Since I had already opened the software packaging, I couldn’t return the product to Staples, but I was able to send it back to Intuit for a refund of my purchase price. software

This looks good though, and it will be interesting to see if they actually using this. I know about this topic by this post. This is very nice post! I will bookmark this blog. I want to talk you about Predictive dialer. Two really outstanding 100 % free anti-virus installing are Avast and Avira (to get the obtain links see my web page address at the end of this article). They both have outstanding opinions, and offer first-rate protection. Many individuals feel they have overtaken AVG Free Anti-virus, which used to be top of the charts. Anti-virus items are very expensive to generate, and if you’re wondering how the creators manage to survive by offering them 100 % free, it’s because they also generate finish professional internet protection software packages, which give broader protection than just antivirus. Those who like the 100 % free antivirus often invest in an annual subscription to the finish protection suite. Get Dedicated servers

Any tips for some soul who pounced on this and is now looking down the barrel of this hassle to try to get a refund?

Frequent Miler

Ouch. I know of one person who begged and pleaded and eventually got a refund. Also, the credit card you used might have purchase protection where they’ll let you do a return even if the store won’t.

Look before you leap, FM.

So, you need to activate to get the rebate?

Frequent Miler

Yes, plus you have to have owned other related products in order to activate.

Is the rebate in the form of a check or a store credit? If it’s a store credit, than you are essentially paying half price for the product.

Frequent Miler

It is a check

I tried this the last time Staples ran the FAR offer and ran into problems. Not only do you have to activate the software, but it took 2 hours of “Intuit customer support” to determine that I couldn’t activate this software because I didn’t have another Quicken product installed on my computer. Read the fine print on the box before buying this! Staples doesn’t mention the need for another Quicken product anywhere in the promo offer or their advertising. Since I had already opened the software packaging, I couldn’t return the product to Staples, but I was able to send it back to Intuit for a refund of my purchase price. But I lost the $10 it cost to send the product back to Intuit (via insured and trackable mail), and Intuit wouldn’t refund the cost of shipping or of the sales tax. Buyer beware!

Thanks. I’ll update post

Doesn’t this rebate require you to activate the software?

Frequent Miler

I guess it does. Does that make it impossible to resell?

Anonymous

Ya, you can’t resell once its activated. Also, you can’t even activate this version unless you have some prior version of Quickbooks. I think this is kind of like an add-on software. I tried doing this rebate once before and it was a hassle. I ended up getting a rebate in the form of a check (including taxes) so I still got the CC spend.

Meant to say I ended up getting a refund in the form of a check*
