  1. This is good for time shifting expenses in order to meet minimum spend, but can you also cashout these gift cards? Otherwise, what value is this deal? Please explain.

    • you can’t cash out the amex gift cards. But you do get points on the credit card used to buy the amex cards (usually), then an additional 2% back from big crumbs for buying them. You then use the Amex for ordinary purchases. So the value of this is that you are getting rewards on the original credit card AND the 2% back from big crumbs for your purchases.

  2. Anonymous: It appears so.

The AMERICAN EXPRESS Gift Card is an easy and convenient way to show you care. Available in a variety of prepaid amounts: up to $5000. Choose between a Classic Gift Card with a standard message or personalize your gift with a Personalized Gift Card.
    Cash Back Details & Exclusions

Cash back not available on eGift Cards. Cash back is not offered on fee-free promotional codes or codes found on other websites.

  3. Don’t do this! Amex will ship them via UPS with no signature required. UPS will just leave them at your door if nobody is home. No activation on the gift cards is required, so anyone can just take your gift cards and use them!

  4. This is pointless to me (for now anyway). I don’t have much non-bonus or non-spending requirement spend, but the stuff that doesn’t I pay for with Vanilla giftcards at CVS with Citi TY 5x until next year (or they kill the 5x).

  5. AMEX GC FAQ says “the American Express Gift Card is not a credit card, charge card or debit card “
So does that mean I can’t use it to pay my Income Taxes and get the low fee ($3-4) available when paying with a debit card?
