American Express usually offers 25,000 Membership Rewards points for signing up for their  Platinum card, but today they’ve increased the public offer to 40,000 points.  $450 annual fee is not waived. Terms and conditions apply.

In my opinion, the $475 Mercedes Benz Platinum card is still a slightly better offer if you don’t think you’ll keep the card for more than one year: 50,000 points and $475 annual fee.  Watch your mailbox, though, as Amex has been known to target people with even better offers through the mail.

Yes for transferring to airline miles. Can also get $200 airline fee credit twice before next annual fee comes due

Do 40k Amex points > $450 annual fee? How could this be worth it?
