Staples Gift Cards

This post is intended to be a resource for those looking to buy gift cards at Staples or Staples.com.  The table below shows each gift card currently offered by Staples, by type.  For each gift card, I’ve listed whether it is available in-store, or via staples.com (email and/or mail).  Visa and Amex gift cards have fees regardless of whether you buy in-store or online (Visa only online).  Physical gift cards sent by mail also usually have fees of $1.99 each.  Gift cards sent via email have no fees.

You can find this post, in the future, in the Gift Cards menu at the top of every Frequent Miler web page.

  1. This is a great resource, thanks. It might be helpful to break out the visa cards by denomination to see a) the fees for each, and b) which ones can only be bought in store.

  2. I think you should do a post showing me and I bought as a dummy with a miles earning credit card versus me after my MM makeover versus how Greg milks it……and any reader could be substituted for me……seems with portal bonus that it is always the first place to start……..

  3. Good list, but I think you are missing MasterCard gift cards, for in-store purchases.
    .
If you do purchase gift cards online, Gift Card Granny has a lot of Staples gift cards for 4-5% off (yes you can use Staples gift cards for gift card purchases online). You will be forgoing any 5x you might get with an Ink card, but it is better than nothing (http://www.giftcardgranny.com/store/staples/).
    .
Also, many shopping portals are available as well, offering up to an additional 5% cash back on orders (http://www.cashbackmonitor.com/Cashback-Store/Staples/).

  4. I guess I’m lucky. Except for the difficulty finding $200 Visa cards, my local Staples has many of the cards in store that are listed here as unavailable. Mostly, I’ve been looking to find Groupon cards again without success.

    • Staples only allows 4 gift cards per online order. You can go through uPromise or ShopDiscover for 5% back and use four $25 gift cards plus a credit card to buy a physical Staples $100 gift card for $101.99. The portal cash back will more than make up for the fee.

  5. What do you mean by “Visa Online Only” in your following statement…
“Visa and Amex gift cards have fees regardless of whether you buy in-store or online (Visa only online).”??

  6. A few questions about how to get the most out of staples gift cards.
    1. Can you buy $200 gift card Home Depot via Ultimate Rewards portal to get x2 with your Ink x5?
    2. Then make purchase via Ultimate Rewards portal at Home Depot x2 with gift card?

    3. Can you use the $200 Home Depot gift card to purchase $50 Shell gift cards at Home Depot?

    Thanks!

  7. My staples in NJ has Whole food gift cards ($50)

Can you buy trader Joes gift cards at office stores or any other portals?

  8. Also, besides whole foods, in Orange County CA, does anyone know what other grocery cards can be bought? Love whole foods but can afford it…

  9. I just tried to use a Staples eGC to buy a merchant GC on staples.com, but couldn’t make the page accept code. Guess that’s not possible?

  10. Can someone confirm that around August 2015, Staples has stopped to carry Amazon.com giftcard in their store? My local Staples doesn’t have it anymore. I asked several times on different occasions and the employees stating that they will not carry Amazon.com giftcard anymore among with other giftcard. So I’m assuming this apply to all Staples store then?

  11. Hi I was wondering if your able to purchase a prepaid Visa card with a store merchandise credit? Was looking online at other forums but haven’t been successfull in locating anything. Would be great if you were able to help . Thanks in advance.
