How to earn 4% cash back on all spend

The cash back portal, Ebates, now offers a Visa credit card that gives you an additional 3% cash back on qualifying purchases made through their portal.

EbatesVisa

One way to take advantage of this is to go through the Ebates portal to buy American Express gift cards for 1% cash back:

If you pay with your EBates credit card, you should get a total of 4% cash back.  Then, use those gift cards for day to day spend.

If you’re new to Ebates, please find a signup link here.

Seems to me this is currently the best cash back option out there – when going through Ebates’ app on a 2% offering. Has anyone tried this?

Can anyone confirm that they purchased Two $2000 Amex gift cards in one transaction and got their rebate. I’d rather not pay two shipping fees, but will, if need be to get my rebate.

NI

Can anyone confirm they got a full 4% back using this method?

Jacinto

When using the ebates Visa cc, thru the ebates portal, I seem to be getting only 1% from ebates on AGC purchases of $2,000 personal cards, not 4%.

Jacinto

All my ebates cash back posts to the MyAccount section of the ebates website. There is no separate cc statement with rewards, although the website has statement closing dates of 2/19 and 3/22.

Going back to my first $2k AGC purchase on 2/9/15, they all post at only 1% with no subsequent 3% added for using the ebates cc, as advertised. Any other data points you have?

Jacinto

Being corrected now. Thanks

Ben

Any update on this Jacinto?

I tried this. At first it posted correctly, at 1% plus 3% but then amex reversed the rebates and I only got1% back for using my ebates cc. After inquiring through ebates, They told me it was because I used a coupon code (for free shipping). I’m going to try it again and see what happens.

[…] 今天偶然在网上(主要是这里和这里)逛到了一个可以 Everything 4% 的方法:Ebates Credit Card + AmEx Gift Cards,但是此卡刚推出不久,且中文论坛了里似乎很少见,于是写此文介绍一下。 […]

American Express® Gift Cards & Business Gift Cards: Cash Back is not available on gift card denominations over $2,000, PrePaid Card, PASS card. Cash Back is not available when any promotional coupon code is used. Cash Back is only available if a member doesn’t exceed $10,000 purchase every 14 days on Consumer Gift Cards. For Business gift cards, Cash Back will be available if a member doesn’t exceed $100,000 purchase every 14 days.

[…] This card earns 3% cash back for all purchases made through the EBates portal.  The trick then is to go through the portal to buy American Express gift cards.  You’ll earn 1% cash back from the portal and 3% cash back from the credit card for a total of 4% cash back!  Use the Amex gift cards, then, to reload REDbird.  See also: How to earn 4% cash back on all spend. I intend to give this a try. I searched the program rules and did not find anything that would prevent the purchase of AMEX gift cards. This could change at any time though because they could simply change their exclusion list. http://www.ebates.com/help/storeexceptions.htm

Currently this is the verbage:
American Express® Gift Cards & Business Gift Cards: Cash Back is not available on PrePaid Card, PASS card. Cash Back is not available when any promotional coupon code is used. Cash Back is only available if a member doesn’t exceed $5,000 purchase every 14 days on Consumer Gift Cards. For Business gift cards, Cash Back will be available if a member doesn’t exceed $75,000 purchase every 14 days.

Credit pulls data base for Synchrony and GE Capital shows most pulls are for TransUnion but the few Experian makes me nervous. Maybe I’d do it if I free Ex first.

Issued by what bank?

Synchrony Bank

No way sustainable, IMO.

ncSam

How can this be sustainable without an AGC exclusion? Portals are already very familiar with MSers.
