The United MileagePlus Shopping Portal is currently offering 6 bonus points per dollar at Staples for United cardholders only (3X for others). They also have JC Penney at 9X, but that (to me) is less exciting)…
Of course, since this is an office supply store, you can pay with a Chase Ink card and earn an additional 5 points per dollar for a total of 11X! To earn even more than 11X, buy e-gift cards to other merchants, then go through a portal to that merchant and buy stuff using those gift cards!
Notes:
- You do not have to pay with a United credit card to get the 6X points, but you do need to be a cardholder to get this offer
- If you purchase Visa gift cards or Staples gift cards you most likely will not earn portal points. In my recent experience, though, gift cards to other merchants (Sears, Whole Foods, etc.) do earn points.
- It can take anywhere from days to weeks for points to show up from portal purchases.

I was wondering if anyone bought e-giftcards when staples was offering 6X points, and was wondering if there points posted on rapid rewards?
The disclaimer says it will not work on the 3rd part GC. Can anyone confirm if it works?
Yes, 3rd party gift cards do work on portal. Not Visa cards.
I saw Celebrity Cruise GC on Staples in case anyone plans to go on a cruise….for 11X.
What happens if it’s a mixed order of VGCs and 3rd party GCs?
You’ll only get points for the 3rd party GCs. Even then it’s still a hit and miss.

Purchased e-giftcard on Jan 30. Confirmation email says it will be delivered Feb 16. Not what I had expected.

I’m logged in and I only see 3x for JC Penny as well. Staples is showing up at 6x for me.
Are there any websites that compile historical data about shopping portal bonuses? It would be nice to be able to look up questions like: Is 6x the best that Staples have ever been? How often does 3x occur? etc.
