As I reported earlier this morning via Frequent Miler’s Quick Deals, Amex has increased the Starwood Preferred Guest signup offer to 35,000 points through March 30th. This is the highest public offer I can remember ever seeing. You can find up to date information about this offer on my Best Offers page (click here to view to my Best Offers page for full details).
If you already have the SPG personal or business card, you can refer friends and earn 5,000 points for each friend who is approved by March 30, 2016. You can earn up to 55,000 points for referring friends to the personal card and another 55,000 points for referring friends to the business card. If you have both cards, it is possible to earn up to 110,000 points. You cannot refer a friend to a card that you do not have. For example, if you have the personal card, you cannot refer the business card.

Pointing out key terms
Full terms and conditions can be found by clicking the link or image above. I do want to point out a few specifics, though:
- “…in each case up to a maximum of 55,000 Starpoints per calendar year for each version of the Card”. “In each case” means that you can earn up to 55K points with the personal card plus 55K points with the business card.
- “the referred individual(s) must apply to the specific offer online through the e-mailed link provided by American Express and be approved by 3/30/2016”. Sometimes friend referrals provide a way to extend the life of a short-term offer. Not in this case. Your friends must sign up and be approved by 3/30/16.
- “This offer is available online only to Basic Card Members”. Does this mean that there’s such a thing as Premium card members? No, I don’t think so. I believe that the intent with this term is to let you know that only the primary account holder is eligible. Those with only authorized user cards or employee cards cannot refer friends.
- “The individuals you refer may not receive the referral e-mail if they have previously ‘opted out’ of receiving e-mail marketing communications from American Express”. If people you refer do not get the offer via email, make sure they log into their Amex account and opt-in to email marketing.

Will someone who is an authorized user of this card get the bonus if they sign up for it themselves? The terms say they are not eligible, but I am wondering if this is true. Thanks!
Yes, it doesn’t matter if you’re already an authorized user. It only matters if you have been a primary account holder in the past.

Did anyone notice the T&C’s of the SPG 35000 Bonus Points deal:
Eligible purchases do NOT include…purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents.
Does that mean one could not purchase VGCs to meet the minimum purchase requirements?
The T&C for just about every credit card out there says “Eligible purchases do NOT include…purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, or purchases of other cash equivalents.” if that helps at all…
As Nevafazeme said, those terms are in all (or almost all) Amex apps and have been for a long time. However, in my experience, those terms are not enforced.

Ok, Someone Please help me answer this questions once and for all!
I need help drawing a clear distinction on the new Amex Business Card once per lifetime rules that kicked in about a week ago.
The rules states that you cannot get a signup bonus if you have had that card in the past. Does that mean I cannot get a signup bonus on the SPG business card for my ant farm business (Separate EIN) if I have had the bonus before with my sock refurbishment business (Separate EIN)?
Basically, if you’ve ever had a specific business card bonus before, you cannot get it again regardless of how many other businesses (like my ninja home defence system) you might have?
I believe that it is intended to be across businesses — that you cannot get a second bonus for your second business even with a different EIN. That said, I haven’t tested that theory. There is some small chance that it will work.
Argh! Been waiting and waiting for a better offer but have a lot of traveling coming up and will be staying at multiple SPG locations so finally gave up and pulled the trigger… was literally approved 2 days ago.
I’d recommend calling to ask that they give you courtesy points to make up for the lost 10K points. Make sure to ask to talk to a supervisor if the first person doesn’t give you a good offer. I’d hold out for at least 5000 points.
What’s the likelihood of Amex matching me to this offer if I just opened an SPG business account in January?

Do the referral offers have the once per lifetime language?
Yes, the recipient of the referral will get the language that the bonus offer is not available to anyone has or had such account in the past.

But hats off to the FM for making everyone aware of the bonus despite the fact that his business interest should be in everyone applying through his links. That’s why I keep coming back here and I apply through his links when I can — I know I can count on the full story, even when it’s not the story that is most beneficial to him.
