Thanks to the “postcard promo” a few months ago (and some previous promos), I have enough IHG points for the next year or two. I’ve never done “points and cash” with IHG — just points — because it didn’t seem like that points and cash offer was that fantastic (as opposed to the cash & money deals you can sometimes get with Hilton). Am I correct that this 15% off promo doesn’t really change the game: that if you’re not running out of points, it’s better to just pay with points?

Never can tell when you need those points. Today you have a lot, but when that big trip or unexpected emergency comes up, you find out that you either don’t have enough or you squandered them away on unworthy deals.
This is a no-brainer when it comes to saving pts and still gaining pts through the promos and stays as well as saving $$$. But if you don’t have to use $+pts, then don’t. But do use them: you only live once.
I’m going to do this for the DAL-NYG match in DAL (DFW). Thus I will be able to save and gain some pts for PR (SJU) and HNL. I currently have 200K+ pts.

And don’t forget to use the cashback portals. This could make this almost free depending on what you’re booking.
