Improved Priority Pass already rolling out with Amex Platinum

In the excitement disappointment over the new Amex Platinum card benefits, one new key benefit has slipped in with little fanfare: an improvement in the Amex Platinum Priority Pass offering.

Priority Pass covers a network of airport lounges around the world — currently more than 1,000 lounges in 500 cities across 130 countries. Many of the lounges in the network are independent, but some airline-specific lounges accept Priority Pass (like Alaska Boardroom locations and the Virgin America Loft at LAX).  This can be very convenient when traveling domestically or in international economy class, where you may not otherwise have lounge access.  Most Priority Pass lounges provide free food and drinks and wi-fi as well as a comfortable place to relax.  Some locations even have showers — handy to freshen up in between long flights.

Previously, the Priority Pass membership that came with the Amex Platinum was of limited use. While it covered the cardholder for free lounge entry, any guests were billed to your credit card at $27 per person per visit.

However, Will at Doctor of Credit is reporting that he contacted Amex and found that as of February 21st, he has been able to bring two guests into Priority Pass lounges for free. Several other of his readers were also able to confirm that their memberships already include two guests.  View from the Wing reports that the new benefit rolls out March 30th, but I would suggest checking with Priority Pass to see if the benefit has already been extended to your card.  Either way, this is a major improvement in the lounge access benefit that brings it on par with the Priority Pass memberships offered by other premium cards.
