Quick Thoughts

Dell has plenty of deals going today that will make for attractive deals stacked with this. For example, there are a number of TVs bundled with promotional gift cards that would be pretty attractive matched with this:

If you don’t need a huge TV, the one on the far left presents an interesting opportunity. At $399.99, you would earn $86 cash back. But it’s even more interesting if you buy with a card that offers price protection, because this TV is also on sale at Sam’s Club for $318.

I’m not sure whether or not you would get a price protection claim to that particular deal since it requires a membership. However, you could always file your claim against the current Best Buy price for a few bucks more.

Assuming you price protect to the Best Buy price of $329.99, you should get $70 back from your credit card. I’ve done price protections on Black Friday prices successfully many times with Citi and Discover (though I always wait to open my items until the claim comes through). Assuming your price protection claim comes through, your net cost should be:

$399.99
-86.00 Cash Back
  -70.00 Price protection
$243.99 final price

That looks like a solid deal on this TV — well below the Black Friday prices you could find anywhere else on this particular TV. And that’s just one example — with some shopping around, you can certainly find some deals.

Be sure to check the terms of your credit card’s price protection — Citi and Discover cover up to $500 per claim and $2500 per year, while Mastercard only covers up to $250 per claim and up to 4 total claims per year. Furthermore, Mastercard and Chase include clauses that exclude “seasonal” and “limited-quantity” sales. YMMV.

On the other hand, if you find a deal like this Playstation Pro bundle, you might be better off paying with an Amex card — if you have the $50/5K back on $299 offer loaded:

In that case, your net cost would come down to ~$281 and you would earn Dell Rewards. H/T Blue in the comments earlier for this one.

Bottom line

Twenty one percent cash back at Dell is a great deal whether you’re buying a TV, a laptop, a gaming system, etc — especially if you can snag a decent Black Friday deal. Note that Slickdeals is also running a rebate right now — this will not stack with that as they require you to go through their links, eschewing cash back elsewhere. In most cases, you’d be better back going through a portal today for a big payout

    • I’m trying to price out XPS 13. With 256GB drive it’s coming out to $930, with 21% back but 8% sales tax it’s around $815 for me….barely $50 above what B&H would have for half the drive size.

  1. Great deal. Thanks for the heads up. Got two gaming consoles (xbox 1 with 3 games for $230 and ps4 pro for $375) for a price of $647.33 after tax. Dell allowed me to split payment so that I could take advantage of two amex offers ($50 each). As long as the 21% at tcb pays out (127.05 if excluding tax, $135.93 if total) that’s $420.28 for both systems and 3 games (battlefield, forza horizon 3 and forza motorsport 7). Plus got $18 in Dell rewards for something later.
