Altitude Reserve flight search better than expected but far from perfect

The new US Bank Altitude Reserve card offers very good first year value thanks to its 50K signup bonus and $325 in travel credits (the card currently shows up in the #20 spot on our Top 10+ Credit Card Offers page)  The best use of the card’s points, in my opinion, is to redeem them for flights at a value of 1.5 cents per point. The problem is that you have to book your flights…

Will Emirates honor the Maldives mistake fare?

Last night, we posted an incredible mistake fare from the Maldives to New York for just $101 one-way or $142 round trip. You could fly with stopovers for a bit more or to many European destinations for about $65. The catch was whether or not Emirates would honor this incredible fare. At the time, we urged readers to wait before making any additional bookings as this seemed unlikely to be honored. This morning, a reader…

Family mileage running for Star Alliance Gold

In the post “Hunt for Star Alliance Gold” I described why I wanted Star Alliance Gold status (lounge access!), and I told the story about a crazy Rube Goldberg-ish approach to status matching that I attempted. The match to Taj to Shargri-La to Singapore status approach ultimately failed, but a reader named Geo left a very interesting comment: If you travel often with your family, look into crediting to Egyptair Plus, apparently you can pool…

It’s not the Maldives to New York for $101, but these are nonetheless great prices. These fares are available for departures on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays between now and June 21st. For example, here is June 6-13: Don’t trust the Google Flights availability calendar — despite…

It turns out you could fly round trip from the Maldives to New York for $142.
