If I apply for this card now, can I get 15 additional nights? I need that to achieve the Platinum status toward 2019

Greg The Frequent Miler

I’m not sure whether the 15 nights will apply until Jan 1.

[…] Marriott Business: Even though the welcome bonus isn’t as high as it’s been in the past, it’s a great choice for many: This is one of the few Chase cards that is not subject to 5/24 rules.  Plus, since it is a business card, it won’t add to your 5/24 count.  Beginning 8/26 getting this card will limit your ability to get the welcome bonus on the SPG Luxury card.  See our Marriott Rewards Premier Business Card Page for more information about this card. hello all. I currently have the Marriott rewards signature business card, that Ive had for many years now. It is my understanding that Chase/Marriott will not send a new card out and my current card automatically turns into the premier business card (in terms of features and earnings). First week of Sept I believe I get my annual free night cert, and my 15 elite night credits. I was banking on getting both, more importantly the free night, but

I want to take advantage of one of the new spg offers, either business card or luxury card before the 26th. Though I am debating if keeping this card makes sense. Can anyone suggest best strategy here and help me with these questions:

Do I need to close this card to take advantage of a new Marriott business card bonus? I think yes but want to confirm, and know if I also have to wait something like 30 days if I close this card before applying for a new one.

I am at 54 nights this year currently, which I believe puts me at platinum for next year already due to changes in the program. If not, I “will” need those 15 elite night credits to stay platinum this year without spending out of my own pocket, so I think I need to

Can I sign up for a marriott premier plus consumer card (if I am under 5/24) and have both the consumer/business card under chase AND before the 26th also get an Amex SPG business or luxury card? I currently have no amex card, but closed my only two earlier this year.

What happens with my annual free night on my current business? Am I able to book a cat1-5 property or does it go by points now (eg 35k), and does this even matter?

Really appreciate some guidance here, thanks all!

Greg The Frequent Miler

Yes, you would have to close it first. And yes wait 30 days, plus make sure it has been more than 24 months since you previously received a signup bonus for the biz card.

Yes 54 nights gets you to platinum.

Current free night certs from old cards are worth 25K points. If you get a new cert with the upgraded card, it will be worth 35K points.

Thanks for the confirmation on business card, going to close this card soon. I am going to hold off and wait for a (hopefully) higher point bonus on the luxury card next time around. Thanks again for the heads up on the old card just giving a 25k free night vs 35k (vs 50k on the luxury card).

Applied on July 29th, got 30 days message. Called reconsideration line several times, they told me to call in 10 days every time, no more info given. Called on August 8th, agent put me on hold several times, then told me I’m approved, without asking any specific questions.
I’m 9/24, no other applications in 2018. Credit score in low 800.

Greg The Frequent Miler

Awesome! Thanks for sharing that info.

Nick

What do you think about applying for this card now with the new Marriott business card coming out in August for Chase? It has a chance of going away, so would you recommend getting the bonus now or wait for the new card?

Greg The Frequent Miler

I think it primarily depends upon whether you want the 15 elite night credits this year. The new card won’t offer those credits until 2019 and then they won’t be stackable with elite nights from other cards. So, yes, if you care about status get the card now

Chris

I applied for this card and got the 30 day notice so I called in and talked to a rep. After answering questions about my business and my credit report, I was told they couldn’t approve the application. The rep said it was because I got two personal cards in February so not enough time has passed. I currently have 5 Chase personal cards and 1 Chase biz card (all within the past year). I also have other recent cards also. Is it worth calling in and trying to get this approved or will that draw more attention to my account and possibly lead to a shut down? I would use this card for my business (selling items on eBay and Amazon), but I was mainly getting it for the elite nights to get toward platinum before the program changes.

Greg The Frequent Miler

There certainly is some risk of drawing attention to your account. I’d recommend waiting a while and applying later. I expect that this card will still be available after August (but I could be wrong)

Alexander

hi gents: I’m about to pull the trigger and apply for this Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Business, because i already have the personal version but need an extra 15 Elite Nights (and I’m seeing that they shouldn’t stack per Chase, but in practice they do). However, right now, if you apply for this card using your Links–or ANYONE’S links–there is no mention of 15 elite nights anymore, just “Automatic Silver Status” and “Pathway to Gold Status if you spend $50k). Am I out of luck? I’m a Marriott Silver now with 33 nights, and I need a 15 night boost – NOT an “automatic silver” that i already have. Please help!

Michelle

I have the exact same question as Alexander. I want to use the sign up link for the 15 night credits toward elite, but am not seeing 15 nights anywhere in the T&C.

Greg The Frequent Miler

Sorry for the late reply. I’m 99% sure that the card still offers 15 nights, but I’m waiting for a Marriott rep to get back to me with confirmation.

Greg The Frequent Miler

Confirmation just came in: Yes the Marriott Business card still grants 15 elite nights

Michelle

Thank you!

Alexander

Thanks so much for confirming my question. I applied, and 1 week later, got a letter in the mail asking for “confirmation of business name” in the form of a utility bill or similar formal document. This I don’t have. It’s looking like my application will be denied any day now
