My strategy given BOA 2/3/4 rule

You may have read this week that Doctor of Credit has confirmed a new rule with regard to Bank of America approvals that is being dubbed the 2/3/4 rule. Greg is currently on vacation, eating his way through Italy on what looks like an epic food tour. At any rate, I’m sure he may have some analysis on the new rule when he returns next week. In the meantime, here’s my strategy going forward. 2/3/4 Explained…

[Expired] 3K-5K+ easy Alaska miles, enter to win 150K

Alaska Airlines has a new promotion out that incentivizes the use of three different mileage-earning methods and it stacks with promotions currently being run by each — meaning that you can earn a minimum of just over 3,000 Alaska miles, but you could easily earn 5,750 or more if you stack the promotions right. Furthermore, there is what appears to be an unadvertised opportunity to win 150,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles through one of the promotions. Dash for Miles Challenge…

Neiman Marcus claws back gift card portal miles

Neiman Marcus Portal Clawback

When shopping through portals to earn miles, points, or cash back, many merchants have terms that exclude portal earnings when purchasing gift cards.  But, some merchants do not enforce that policy.  That’s why we keep track of what works and what doesn’t on our page. In previous experiments, people had found that buying e-gift cards from Neiman Marcus did result in earning portal rewards.  Then, last weekend, first the Alaska portal and then the United…

Who wants to earn oodles of Alaska miles today?

As we reported last night, the Alaska MileagePlan Shopping portal is offering 15 miles per dollar at 12 different stores, today only (Friday, January 20th 2017).  If you have plans to buy from any of these merchants anyway, today may be a great day to do so!  But, first we should check whether this deal is really special… Are the merchandise prices good? I have no idea.  I recommend price comparison shopping in a separate…

SPG point owners win again thanks to the Alaska Virgin America merger

Yesterday, Virgin America spilled the conversion ratio beans.  Thanks to the upcoming Alaska merger, as of January 9th 2017, Virgin America customers will be able to convert Elevate points into Mileage Plan miles at a rate of 1 to 1.3.  So, 1,000 Virgin America Elevate points will convert to 1,300 Alaska Airline MileagePlan miles. Boy was I wrong. In April, I had predicted that points would convert 1 to 2 (see: How to play the…

Staples 8X Alaska miles today! Pay with Ink for 13X rewards

Today’s Portal Alerts shows a large number of high portal payout rates, but the one I find most interesting is this one: 8X via Alaska MileagePlan Shopping.  This is especially interesting for a few reasons: Alaska miles are particularly valuable (can be used on many high-value flight partners, allow one-ways with stopovers, etc) If you pay with a card that offers an office supply bonus, you can earn even more (such as Chase Ink: 5X)…

Portal deals: Staples is back, Best Buy 5X, Lowes 6X, and many more…

Via Frequent Miler’s Portal Alerts, the American Airlines, Alaska, and Southwest mileage portals are offering enhanced bonuses for a number of merchants.  It’s worth noting that Staples, which had recently disappeared from most mileage portals is now back and running a 4 mile per dollar promo through the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Shopping portal.   Enhanced rates are most likely for today only. Update: Southwest offers are available through tomorrow (through 11:59pm ET on March…

Our Celebrity Cruise

As I reported earlier (see “So Long Alaska, and Thanks for All the Fish”) my family of three recently took the Celebrity Millennium cruise from Seward Alaska to Vancouver BC.  Here’s the story… Day 1: All Aboard The journey began in the small town of Seward Alaska.  We arrived in Seward in the morning and spent the day walking through town and visiting the aquarium which was very nice. Aboard the ship, our stateroom was…
