Amex Platinum adds Lufthansa lounge access

American Express has added a new benefit for Platinum cardholders: Lufthansa Lounge access in the Terminal 2 satellite at Munich airport. While this benefit is only available in a single airport as of now, it’s great to see the Global Lounge Collection expanding. This change is about a month late for me as I flew economy class through Munich last month and would have certainly used the lounge if I could have. The lounges you can…

Travel Insurance Showdown: Reserve vs Prestige vs Platinum

Last week I reviewed the Chase Sapphire Reserve card’s travel insurance.  I was impressed with how favorably it compared to the lower cost Sapphire Preferred card.  But, how does it compare to travel insurance provided by other ultra-premium cards? I created a new resource page: Ultra-Premium Credit Card Travel Insurance to answer that question.  There you’ll find a side by side comparison of the travel insurance benefits automatically provided by the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Citi…

I’m calling it: US Bank Altitude will be DOA.

I’m calling it: The US Bank Altitude card is Dead On Arrival. This morning, Greg wrote about US Bank’s Sapphire Reserve Killer. Long story short: US Bank is making a foray into the premium card market. This card would presumably do what the Citi Prestige and the American Express Personal and Business Platinum cards haven’t done: kill the buzz on the Chase Sapphire Reserve. Unfortunately, I think the only thing the US Bank Altitude Reserve…

Which is the best Amex Platinum card?

Amex Platinum for Less

American Express has many varieties of their premium Platinum cards.  Which is the best best Amex Platinum card?  First, let’s get the obvious out of the way: At the time of this writing, in my opinion, the Business Platinum card is better than any of the consumer Platinum cards.  Those who love Uber and/or want 2 or more Platinum authorized users on their account may disagree, but most will get more value at a lower…

American Express has had a slew of new offers out today, including 2x Membership Rewards points at a number of retailers through December 31st and a targeted $100 back on $300 or more at MR PORTER (we pointed out that a good use of this one would be for a GoPro). A third offer that is widely available is a $100 statement credit on $600 or more in prepaid hotel bookings at Amex Travel. The…
