The new king of everyday spend: Amex Blue Business Plus

I did not see this coming.  A great new credit card has just been introduced with no fanfare and no press leaks: Amex Blue Business Plus.  Unlike other recently introduced cards, this one is not a premium card.  Far from it.  This one has no annual fee.  And, it’s a business card.  And that’s a good thing.  Read on… The Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card: 2X Everywhere This card has a middle of the road…

Should I go for the 30% transfer bonus to Virgin? Reader input requested.

The Amex Membership Rewards 30% transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic ends Monday, May 22.  I’m tempted to take advantage of it, for several reasons: Virgin Atlantic miles are extremely valuable towards ANA first class flights. Virgin Atlantic miles can be quite valuable towards Delta flights. Virgin Atlantic miles can be valuable for Virgin Atlantic awards and upgrades if you don’t mind dealing with high fuel surcharges. Necker Island.  I want to go back.  See:  Is…

Enhanced Business Platinum pay-with-points rebate decreasing June 1st

The American Express Enhanced Business Platinum 50% pay-with-points rebate has quickly become one of our favorite benefits. Unfortunately, it seems this benefit became everyone’s favorite — and therefore it has become too expensive for Amex to continue to offer it. As reported by The Points Guy, Amex has announced that effective June 1st, they will be decreasing the pay-with-points rebate to 35%. Additionally, there will now be a cap of 500,000 rebated points per year. Furthermore,…

Why Maputo? Taking advantage of foreign market business and first class prices

When I started working here at Frequent Miler back in January, I was just starting out on a round-the-world trip. I’ve written about some of the good-value hotels along the way — like the Protea Hotel Stellenbosch Dorpshius & Spa, the Protea Hotel Kruger Gate, and the JW Marriott Phu Quoc. A few weeks ago, I wrote about booking the first few legs of the trip to get to South Africa. I booked those flights using…

Why pay more? Here’s why paying 25K points is sometimes better than 15K

I had a small epiphany the other day.  I realized that when paying for flights, I should use the most restrictive points currency that matches my needs rather than the one that lets me book with the fewest points. Consider this $317 flight: Thanks to the Amex Business Platinum card’s 50% point rebate, I could pay 15,850 Membership Rewards points (I’d first pay 31,700 points and then I’d get half back).  Or, I could use…
