Some hot deals around the ‘net

As today is Amazon Prime Day, retailers from A to Z are doing their best to steal your attention away (see what I did there?). Here is a collection of some of the deals — both on Amazon and around the web — going on today. Note that I have not done extensive research on these, they were just deals that caught my eye and I thought readers may find useful. Most of these came from watching Slickdeals…

Free Virgin Mobile + Virgin Atlantic / Alaska discounts: Deal or no deal?

Free Virgin Mobile cell service for one year

On the heels of Sprint’s recent (and still valid until 6/30) promotion for one year of FREE Sprint cell phone service, Virgin Mobile announced a few days ago that they are also offering nearly free wireless service for 12 months, as well as opportunities for 2-for-1 travel on Virgin Atlantic and up to 20% off some Alaska Airlines flights. However, there is a catch….or two or three or four. The main catch is that you have…

Today only, eBates 10% back at many stores: Virgin America, Boden, HP, Talbot’s…

The eBates cash back portal is offering 10 percent cash back at over 300 stores, today only. The most surprising option on here, to me, is that eBates is offering 10% cash back for flights purchased through Virgin America.  I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen a decent portal offer for purchased flights. Some specialty stores like Boden and others, also rarely offer very good portal rates.  Check CashBackMonitor to view a store’s historical…

The music never dies. Richard Branson says he’ll start a new Virgin America.

It is a sad (and some would say baffling) day. But I’d like to assure them that the music never dies. Was that a hint suggesting that…

This can be a terrific value when planning complex itineraries and can be a great way to put together a mileage run as both travelers will earn miles and elite credits on the flights. The rules for booking these fares state…

SPG point owners win again thanks to the Alaska Virgin America merger

Yesterday, Virgin America spilled the conversion ratio beans.  Thanks to the upcoming Alaska merger, as of January 9th 2017, Virgin America customers will be able to convert Elevate points into Mileage Plan miles at a rate of 1 to 1.3.  So, 1,000 Virgin America Elevate points will convert to 1,300 Alaska Airline MileagePlan miles. Boy was I wrong. In April, I had predicted that points would convert 1 to 2 (see: How to play the…
