$10 for a Flat Bed in Chicago? I’ll Take It

So the $10 bed does not have this view….it’s in the ‘burbs.

Chicago is one of my favorite cities and we visit often — normally staying with friends, unless we find a smoking deal like those $11 or $111/nt Conrad rooms. This post from Points Adventure highlighted another cheap sleep option that made me smile for a number of reasons. First, it brought back fond memories of the adventure in the days when I would take a bus, a train, another bus, and then walk ten minutes in the dark to find the cheapest bed around :-). My wife mostly appreciates that I’ve lost some of my sense of adventure these days in favor of earning and burning points — but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t occasionally miss fun stuff like this. The second reason this one stood out is because the friend who more or less introduced me to the world of miles and points loves this place. He has been adamant that we need visit this spot on one of our multiple trips to Chicago each year (not so much for the $10 beds), but we haven’t yet made it happen. So if you find yourself looking for something to do in the Chicago ‘burbs, let me know how this works out for you.

The Mystery behind Momondo

We’ve often posted airfare deals where the cheapest prices to be found are through small online travel agencies listed on metasearch site Momondo. So what’s the story? How do they offer lower prices? Are they reliable? Where did Momondo come from? If you’ve ever wondered, you’re not alone. Eric Cooper at Thrifty Traveler unravels the mystery and this is a good read for those who chase airfare sales.

Two Great Ways AARP Can Save You Money When Traveling

Greg has written in the past about the great value you can get out of an AARP membership no matter your age. The benefit most mentioned here at Frequent Miler has been the British Airways discounts (See: Extreme Stacking British Airways, AA, and Iberia flights). But Stephen Pepper at No Home Just Roam covers two other benefits — one of which I had never noticed before (despite the fact that Greg has indeed written about Rewards for Good before). I’ll be checking into the local offers for future trips as I see more domestic travel in the next couple of years and will be happy to save a few more bucks thanks to this tip.

If you missed the news this week, your information has once again been hacked……except it was done a year ago and Uber paid to cover it up. Ugh — this is just further motivation to do what you can to lock down your digital kingdom and monitor your information. In this post, Doctor of Credit covers the major details of this latest breach.

Marriott’s “Look No Further” Best Rate Guarantee: Cases Marriott & Ritz Carlton Budapest

I initially had some trouble following the screen shots in this post from Loyalty Lobby, but once my brain got it all straight, the golden takeaway was the incredible speed with which Marriott is approving best rate guarantee claims. While I have often used these guarantees in the past, I’ll admit to not making great use of them over the past year or two. This post was a great reminder that you can save a lot of money with a little extra effort.
