Update 3/31/19: Alive again.

The American Airlines AAdvantage eShopping portal is offering 10x miles on Marriott bookings. This is likely only valid today (Sunday, March 31, 2019). If you value American miles at greater than 1 cent each, that’s a pretty good deal.

The Deal

Key Terms

  • Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site. (Note: See more under “Quick Thoughts”)
  • Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents.

Quick Thoughts

Our Reasonable Redemption Values have American miles pegged at a value of 1.4c each. That value can of course vary depending on how you use them. Assuming you value AA miles at that amount or greater, this is an excellent deal in terms of return on your paid Marriott bookings.

Note that the terms indicate that this offer is not eligible if you use coupon or discount codes that are not on the AA shopping portal site. However, I recently tested that out and received the American Airlines miles despite having used a code that is not found on the AAdvantage shopping portal. YMMV quite literally. You can’t count on receiving any support from the portal if you use a code that isn’t there, but it might work.

Overall, this is a nice return if you have paid bookings. For those who intend to continue booking with Marriott, it’s great to see these big portal offers becoming fairly consistent. On the other hand, this no doubt rubs salt in the wound for many people whose status unexpectedly disappeared this weekend. Hopefully we’ll receive word from Marriott on that situation soon.

This deal has previously run on these dates recently:

  • March 24, 2019
  • March 14, 2019
  • March 4, 2019

Curious to see if this will work with the government rate. How long until points normally post? I’ll be doing a month long stay, so this should be a nice point boost 😀

Do these work for bookings that do not require upfront payment? Wondering If making flexible reservations for future work trips will work for this promotion when it comes back up.

Hi Greg,
Is all Autograph Collection hotels excluded via AA or is it just their wording? Their support says it is excluded but website such as Ebates word it clearer to say what brands are excluded and which hotels specifically are excluded like Atlantis Autograph Collection.
