Quick Thoughts

10% cashback is a great rate for some of the participating retailers, although you’ll want to shop around with a tool like Cashbackmonitor.com to be sure you’re getting the best rate. 10x Membership Rewards is an even better return if you prefer Membership Rewards points. In case you missed that news, you can now switch an existing cashback account to a Membership Rewards account. For more on how to do that, see Rakuten (formerly Ebates): now change from cash back to Membership Rewards points.

That said, we just saw 12% / 12x back a few days ago and some of the increased rates today still aren’t the highest available, so do be sure to check all of your options.

One option that stuck out at me is once again IHG hotels (i.e. Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Intercontinental, etc). Keep in mind that you’re clicking through Rakuten to go to the IHG site, so you are booking directly with IHG and can earn points / elite credit. You do not need to book an advance purchase rate. Also stack with a current Chase Offer good for 10% back up to $38 if you will be paying for your stay by 12/20.

Surely there are some other values to be found, particularly when stacking with Chase Offers or Amex Offers. I believe that this increased cash back rate is because today is the last day to order with standard shipping for Christmas delivery at many retailers, so it is also a good reminder to get into gear if you’re needing to sort out last-minute gifts.
