In addition to the transfer bonuses to Marriott, Hawaiian Airlines and the about-to-be-expiring Avios offer, American Express has launched a new transfer bonus. With this one you can get a 15% bonus when transferring Membership Rewards to your Avianca LifeMiles account.

American Express LifeMiles 15% Transfer Bonus

The Deal

  • Get a 15% bonus when transferring Membership Rewards to Avianca LifeMiles.

Key Terms

  • Expires October 31, 2019.
  • Must transfer in increments of 1,000.

Quick Thoughts

Membership Rewards transfer bonuses are usually for 25% or more so a 15% bonus isn’t great, although it’s certainly better than transferring on a 1:1 basis.

With an expiry date of October 31, there’s no need to transfer points immediately. You’ll want to transfer before October 18 though if you want to take advantage of the latest LifeMiles award sale.

Nick’s made the case before that he’s not too excited about LifeMiles transfer bonuses seeing as you can buy them so relatively cheaply, so do the math as to whether you’d be better off purchasing whatever LifeMiles you need and saving your Membership Rewards for a more valuable redemption. Speaking of buying LifeMiles, you have until October 2 to buy them with a bonus of up to 145%.

The LifeMiles program does have some sweet spots and unusual pricing, so check out Greg’s post explaining how adding an economy flight on to the end of a flight in a premium cabin can require fewer miles. See: Avianca LifeMiles’ awesome mixed-cabin award pricing. First Class for less.
