$1500 business class summer fares to Europe are back, plus good use for ThankYou points

The Star Alliance has continued their summer business class fare war with sub $1500 round trip business class flights from the US to Europe.  Most of these deals originate at airports that are not Star Alliance hubs.  For example, I just ran a quick search on United.com for round trip business class fares from Detroit to Paris and found fares for $1,557 in July.

For those with lots of Citi ThankYou points, you might be interested in seeing that the ThankYou travel site can also see these fares.  I ran a similar search there, and the price came up just a bit higher at $1610.  Those with a ThankYou Premier card can buy these tickets for 20% fewer points (128,841 points in this example) or 33% fewer points with a Citi Prestige card.  If you have ThankYou points, but not one of the cards I just mentioned, find a friend with such a card and transfer your points to him/her if they’re willing to book the flight for you.

My father has the TY Premier and I thought they dropped it from 1.33cents/point to 1.25, no 1.2, no?

Frequent Miler

The Premier TY points did drop in value from 1.33 cents per point to 1.25 cents per point. 1.25 cents per point = 20% fewer points.

Ah yes, didn’t pay attention to 20% drop. Thanks! 🙂
