Samsung Pay is offering at least some users 20% cash back at Best Buy via the Samsung Pay app (only on Samsung smartphones) up to $100 back per transaction. Some people are reporting only seeing an offer for 2% back, some people see both a 2% offer and a 20% offer. See your app for details. Many major categories (like laptops and iPads) are excluded, but with Black Friday coming this week there will surely be plenty of items where this could equal a significant savings.

Quick Thoughts

This deal came around last year (as someone recently reminded me) and it’s as good as it gets for Best Buy cash back, though the many exclusions will surely frustrate some folks. Still, with usual cash back rates for Best Buy in the low single digits, getting 20% back on anything is probably a welcome sight for those who can take advantage.

Note that for this deal only works on Samsung phones. While you can use Samsung Pay via the Gear S3 smartwatch, the watch app does not have the shopping portal.

Personally, this Costco deal and the fact that I’ll actually pass by a Costco next weekend already had me loosely contemplating buying a new Samsung phone next week. This 20% back deal might push me over the edge on that.

I found the actual Costco/ T-Mobile ad for the Note 9 promo from last December i don’t remember if the deal was better on BF.
But S8+ was $790 6/2017 [BOGO plus 2 Samsung TVs Costco/T-Mo deal].
S8 Trade-in was $750 it was mostly a MCGC and small bill credit FMV trade value if purchased outright or With Citi Costco card stack and trade in price was $39 + tax out the door and a new line for 3-4 months.

2% for me. 🙁

I got 9% at Sam’s too.

Do you have to buy a plan with the phone for that Costco deal?

frequentmileruser

Thanks for the reply. Yes it should be unlocked, even after a little while, since you are paying full price for the phone. The Costco deal is really good.

YoniPDX

Yes, but they limit you to unlocking two phones per year (3 if you sweet talk a CSR 😉 .

Last years deal Note 9 was a bit sweeter in December $200+/- or even better if you had used Citi Costco card about $75.

I traded it Note9 in with Samsung for unlocked Note 10+ ($500 credit). Trade in S5 that was collecting dust (250 credit) 8/2018 at Costco on another Note 9.

That said check your Chase offers if you have a trade-in you can also go that route. Chase offer are 20% CB up to $94 ($470).

Samsung dot com is including Galaxy buds, 6 mo premium Spotify, 4 months YouTube red, and T-Mobile phone is $200 off this is if you had a trade-in. Using INK CIC card earn 5x UR at Samsung (digital river codes 5x) plus 10x MR thru Rakuten as well as S-pay points (which are worth 0.05).

Trade-ins are not always a bad deal, in Sept my $200 Note 9 deal and your Pixel 3 XL [Google Fi deal] were worth $650 on Trade in from Microsoft far more than they could be sold private party.

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/microsoft-get-up-to-650-on-trade-in-when-purchasing-a-new-note-10-10/

I paid $250 for the used S5 for my daughter (we did the S8+ BOGO + free Samsung TVs at Costco wireless in 2017, net cost $0 after selling TVs netted $100 and cashed out $750 MCGC [BOGO] at WF counter. I got $250 for that four year old S5, but that was on Note 9 pre-order at Costco 2018. I got $500 trade in on S8+ (from BOGO) last December for Note9 at Costco net $200 – Note9 would have only been $75 with Citi card promo stack.

So trade-in it’s always in flux – I’ve thought about selling on Swappa but never have but $400 = $360 after s&h, PayPal, swappa fee approx.

I’m up $600-700 on phone deals thru Costco and T-Mobile deals [I have 7 lines @$140 Military ONE plan]]
I missed Google Fi Pixel deal by 5 mins checking out. Such is life.

I didn’t go thru Costco for Note10+ , mainly because I would have had to upgrade to Magenta Military ONE plus and IIRC no trade in but BOGO and one more phone line – also I had ported 3 t-mobile lines to Xfinity Fi for $300 BYOD VGC deal).

BTW Costco has a $125 Costco Cash GC for each BYOD line adding a line with T-Mobile at Costco it can be worth it depending on your plan

– the MC BOGO GC can be cashed out at WF counters for no cost – despite small print, GC app states how to cash out debit card at different banks for free.

I think the next round of 5G phones could be great money makers thru Costco/T-Mo.

Samsung gave me $600 trade in for Note9 (now its just $340 but with $100 Galaxy buds) but if I had pre-ordered then an extra $200 in credits for Samsung accessories. But I did get 5K MR made the purchase on AmEx Gold card AU promo. The Note 10+ from Samsung was also unlocked from Samsung.

Spotify, I also had free trial; and two cheap 3 month trials, I like the huge library; hate the interface (prefer Prime but small library).Had to sign up with different email to use 6-mo promo -but my daughter told me I could just follow my old playlist -rather than remake them.

Red tube yeah meh. Bought some Anker earbuds for $30ish on Amazon better than headphones with neck pillow on plane to watch, Got the AKG-N60 with Note 9 pre-order, Bose 35 have better NC on plane without neck pillow, lol. The AKG-N60 was a better promo because Galaxy buds not worth $100, the Bose 35 yes.

Sidenote :
Samsung has a secure folder which is like a 2nd phone on phone and I can manage player 2 from secure folder – two Amex apps, two Chase apps, two Citi apps, two BofA apps, two WF apps Sofia apps, two Cash apps, etc. It’s it main thing that locks me into Samsung but some exceptions only one Samsung pay and a few other apps.

Just 2% for me. Guess I’m not worthy.

9% at Sam’s isn’t bad though. It’ll at least cover the sales tax here in this confiscatory tax state.
