[…] Virgin America and Airbnb are teaming up to offer a very good promotion for people looking to either rent or host on the community marketplace. First time renters can earn 1,500 Elevate points and first time hosts can earn 20,000 Elevate points. Existing users can also earn 1 point per dollar on rentals. This deal will also stack with the recent 50% off Airbnb Amex Offer. […]

Thanks Shawn. I already had a stay booked in April, 2016. I contacted Airbnb and they were able to change my method of payment to my AmEx. It’s a four day stay, and made a rate we were already very happy with to a great rate.

James

anyone found a secondary market for these?

renzhen

can you redeem multiple gift cards in one booking? Thanks.

Kent C

No.

If this is the case (1 card per order), this offer is really only useful for inexpensive stays. If you’re renting a house for a few days, it’s hardly worth the trouble because airbnb will charge you more fees than other channels.

John

Actually. AirBnb gift cards can be “loaded” to your account – e.g. the same way you handle Amazon GCs. So in short, don’t try to use the GC to make a booking. Just load GC(s) to your account, then use your GC balance to pay whatever part of your booking you can cover.

To access this, you go to your account, click on Payment Methods. At the bottom there is a box to enter GC code and “Apply to Account”.

Thanks, John. So have you or anyone else actually loaded multiple gift cards to their account and used them on a single booking? This is obviously the Holy Grail of this deal and, if it’s doable, the offer becomes much more valuable.

BTW, I’m assuming you need a second airbnb account to buy the gift cards from? I recall reading somewhere that you can’t load gift cards to the same account they’re bought in. True?

But the problem is- doesn’t the balance expire after a certain period of time?

Using the FrequentMiler instructions, I just synced an AMEX card to the promo and used it. Thank you!

Before I did, I opened another account and “referred” myself: which gave me an additional $20 booking credit. This was convenient because, at least for my booking, there was an Airbnb service fee of $21.

So the net result was a nice savings of $49.

Does anyone know if Airbnb would care if you have multiple accounts (with multiple referral credits)? Otherwise, the service fee makes their site pretty illogical to use, because you could book direct and save the fee.

HeavenlyJane

You might eventually get busted by Airbnb for doing that. They have a specific department called “Trust & Safety” and if they ever do an audit on duplicate profiles, they will sleuth out that you set up two accounts in order to get a referral fee. I’m not saying you shouldn’t do it, $20 is a powerful incentive. I just feel badly that there is a note in my record that I got reprimanded.

Thanks for posting! I got the offer on my Delta Amex but not on my SPG Amex.

Dee

Hubby got it on his Delta and Simply Cash biz

Dee

I got it on my Everyday, personal Platinum and biz Gold.

Sorry I know this is off-topic but I tried googling and going through different blogs and forums but have been unable to find an answer. Does using your Discover card to purchase Amazon gift cards earn the 5% cash back or is that excluded? Thank you very much in advance.
