Quick Tip: Use the best credit card for #GivingTuesday

Today is “Giving Tuesday”.  Wikipedia describes this day as “a movement to create a national day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season.”  With many charities, donation matches are available today so that your donation will go further.

Best credit card options for #GivingTuesday

If you plan to make your donation with a credit card, you might as well earn additional rewards.  In my opinion, the best options for charitable donations are the US Bank Cash+ card and the US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards cards.

US Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card: This card offers 5% cash back each quarter on up to $2,000 spend within two categories of your choice.  If you chose Charitable Donations as one of your 5% categories, then you’ll earn 5% back when donating to charities (as long as they are coded as a charity).

U.S. Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature Card or American Express Card:  Both cards offer triple points for charitable donations with no cap.  FlexPerks points are worth up to 2 cents each towards airfare, so its possible to earn the equivalent of 6% back in rewards.  Note, though, that airfare redemptions are usually worth less than 2 cents per point, so assuming 5% returns (towards airfare) is more realistic.

U.S. Bank FlexPerks Business Edge Travel Rewards Visa Card: Just like the personal FlexPerks Travel Rewards Cards (above), this business card offers triple points for charitable donations.
