Wow, it’s a nice explanation, but it took me a while to remember to revisit this article.
Is the link still alive for the $100 credit+30K miles? I think I used your link to apply for my spouse’s CC, but he only got the miles but not the CR even though he spent over $1,100. He called CS and he was told they’d research and send a letter. No letter after 3 weeks. The rep also mentioned something that there should have been a code or promo # on the application… I never saw it before on the old applications…what could she have meant by this? Any other tips how we can get the $100 credit?
How could I prove BofA in the future that the info on the link said 30K+$100 credit so they honor it?

Any time you’re wondering about the current signup bonus on a card, you can always go to that page (you can easily find it by clicking “Best Offers” at the top of any page on Frequent Miler). We list the signup bonus and card info and link to the application there. You’ll see there that the bonus offer remains the same (with the $100 statement credit after $1K spend). The terms state that the credit will be applied 8-12 weeks after you make the purchases. I’d just click through to the application page and take a screen shot of the offer showing the $100 statement credit and send it to BOA and let them know that you saw this when you applied. In fact, I try to always take screen shots of application offers when I apply so I have the information should something not credit properly.

I still do not understand how this companion ticket works through Alaskan CC and how I could take advantage of it. E.g. I and my spouse both have this CC and we also have 2 kids. Should he buy a ticket for himself and get a companion ticket for one kid and I’d do the same? The previous poster said he wanted to charge the Arrival CC, how would Alaskan know that he qualifies to obtain the companion fare for the taxes only if Alaskan CC isn’t used? Will he need to call Alaskan Air to tell that he has Alaskan CC hence he owes taxes only on the companion fare even though he uses the Arrival CC?
PS. At the same time I’d like to as a similar question re Citi Advantage Platinum Select MC. It says that I’ll be able to check in a luggage on the domestic flight for free. The part I do not understand is whether I (and family members) qualify regardless how I pay for that domestic flight…? Will I still qualify if I charged that flight to a different CC or in our case we booked one-way with Avios points and the return flight was booked with Advantage award points and taxes on both were charged to Alaskan CC? Maybe it’s a stupid question but have to ask.

Hello. I’ll try to answer questions separately here:
1) We have 2 kids and we each have the Alaska CC. Should we each buy a ticket and add 1 kid?
A: You can do that. Read on — you can really do it any way you want. The companion fare is just a coupon code that takes off the fare for 1 traveler.
2) How would Alaska know it qualifies as a companion fare if I don’t use my Alaska Airlines credit card?
A: The companion fare is stored as a discount code in your Alaska airlines account. When you log into your frequent flyer account at Alaska Air, you’ll see a link for “Discount codes” somewhere on the left side, and this is where you’ll find your companion fare code. The fare is just like a coupon code — you have to apply it when searching for your flight. Then you can pay any way you want. The restrictions are this: Either the person who the companion code belongs to must travel OR the travel must be paid for with that person’s credit card. As an example, let’s say Bob and Sue are married and their kids are Billy and Sally. Bob has the Alaska Airlines credit card, so he has a discount code in his account. All of these scenarios are possible:
i) Bob travels and adds Billy as his companion. Bob pays with his credit card.
ii) Bob travels and adds Billy as his companion. Sue pays with her credit card. (doesn’t matter who pays – Bob is traveling).
ii) Bob travels and adds Billy as his companion. Mickey Mouse pays with his credit card. (again, as long as Bob travels, it doesn’t matter who pays)
iii) Sally and Billy (the kids) travel. Bob pays with his credit card. (Bob isn’t traveling, but it’s OK because he is paying with his credit card. This can be ANY credit card as long as it is in Bob’s name – doesn’t have to be the Alaska card).
iii) Lady Gaga and Jeb Bush travel together. Bob pays with his credit card. (again, no problem — as long as it is paid for with a credit card in Bob’s name, anyone can travel).
iii) Bob and Jeb Bush travel together. Lady Gaga pays with her credit card. (now we’re back to Bob traveling – doesn’t matter who pays)
We could go on. As you can see, it’s very flexible. If you both have an Alaska credit card, you can easily travel with the kids in almost any configuration you can imagine. Alternatively, Bob might have 2 cards (like an Alaska business and an Alaska personal) and he could use both companion fares to get the whole family there.

Do I need to charge the flight to my Alaska credit card to be eligible to use the companion fare discount code?
Absolutely not. You need to either:
A) be one of the travelers
OR
b) use a credit card in your name to pay for it
So, to recap that — if you are one of the travelers, you can pay with any payment method. You long lost aunt Suzy could pay for the ticket on her Visa Gift Card as long as you’re one of the travelers.
Or, if you’re going to book the companion fare for 2 other people — let’s say you want to book a trip for your brother Jim Bob and his wife Sallie — you need to pay for it on a credit card in your name. That could be any card in your name. It doesn’t have to be your Alaska card.
All that said, I’m sure BOA would like you to use your Alaska card. If you’re looking for travel protection, I can definitely understand why you’d pay with another card. But otherwise, I’m happy to get 3X Alaska miles on the purchase anyway.

Am I right that th $100 statement credit comes after you make $1K in spend req? It doesn’t require any Alaska airline flight purchase? I like th distance based award within USA but it is only on Alaska flights? I don’t think Alaska flies from Chicago? I am based in Midwest Chicago. Thanks
Is the companion pass good for Business Class ticket or only for Economy?
Only economy. If you have Alaska MVP Gold or 75K status, you can use your guest upgrades though. You can be upgraded at the airport based on the new upgrade process (which prioritizes fare class paid to get an upgrade). I’ve done both.

I applied on April 29th and got approved. The offer was for 35k miles after $1000 spend in first 3 months. Called Alaska to see if they can match the offer and was told no, but they gave me $100 credit on my account to be used in next 12 months.
I can’t see the new link. Still the old companion page comes up.
You shouldn’t be getting a companion page. If you click on the link to best offers, that will take you to our best credit card offers page. And scroll down a few cards and you should see the Bank of America Alaska Airlines Visa signature card. Click that link to go directly to the application.
What is the limits for this card if I already have 2 of them in the past? Do I qualify for another? ~10 months ago signed up
