From $210 nonstop RT to Ireland & Scotland from Northeast US

2

European discount carrier Norwegian Airlines has some great prices for direct flights from cities in the Northeast of the US to Ireland and the UK — starting from $210 round trip on direct flights. That’s great for summer travel. As fate would have it, at the time of publication, it seems that the Norwegian website is down — check back on this post and try the links again a bit later.

The Deal

  • Cheap direct flights from Newburgh NY (SWF), Providence, RI (PVD), and Hartford, CT (BDL) to Dublin (DUB), Shannon (SNN), Edinburgh (EDI), and Belfast (BFS) from $210 round trip nonstop

Quick Thoughts and Examples

Norwegian is a no-frills airline, but the reviews and pictures I’ve seen so far have all looked more or less like any other airline in economy class. Keep in mind that there will be additional fees for things like selecting a seat and checking bags. However, at these prices, that might not be much of a concern. And direct flights are also a huge plus. As an example, Newburgh, NY has 11 nonstop routes in total — 5 of those are operated by Norwegian. At $210 some dates, it’s cheaper to fly to Ireland than it is to fly direct to Philadelphia (127 miles away by air) it’s only $3 less to fly to Detroit.

While these prices are only available on select days in July and August (and they are great prices for summertime travel), they are also widely available for departures in September and October. Using all of the airports listed above, you can find cheap availability almost every day in the fall:

Final Word

If you’re looking for an inexpensive getaway this summer or fall and you live in the Northeast, these fares are worth a look. While we’ve seen a lot of sub-$400 round trips on legacy carriers, these low $200’s fares are probably about as good as it gets. I do of course recommend using a card that earns a nice bonus on airlines and/or offers the right travel protections for your trip. Cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve, the Chase Ritz-Carlton card, and the Citi Prestige offer excellent trip delay/cancellation protections. These cheap airfares could also be covered in full by the annual travel credits on the Sapphire Reserve or Prestige cards. Alternatively, the Chase Ritz-Calrton’s travel credit would cover fees like seat selection and baggage. To learn more about these and other cards, see our Best Offers page.
