A sweet spot and what to do with those Citi points

Welcome to this week’s Frequent Miler week in review around the web, where we recap some of the stories that caught our eye around the net. Enjoy!

Get SPG Points on Broadway Shows

While I can agree with Jon at No Mas Coach that earning Starpoints on Broadway tickets is better than not earning Starpoints on Broadway tickets, that logic only holds true if prices are constant. My initial reaction was that Audience Rewards would be a bad deal. I ran a test search for Monday evening’s performance of Phantom of the Opera and found the Audience Rewards pricing comparable on some seats (thought not all). You’d come out slightly ahead on some seats by using one of the current Amex Offers for discounted ticket websites — and way ahead if you’re looking for Front Mezzanine and you purchase through the discount link at BroadwayBox (more than 33% less that way) — but some of the Orchestra and Rear Mezzanine seats were fairly comparable in price across different channels. These days, with many shows offering digital lotteries, I’ll usually opt for entering a few lotteries and taking what I get if I go for a show. But if you know you want a specific show and want the security of booking through a known entity, Jon may be on to something here — earn some extra Starpoints!

I love a good sweet spot, and Thai Airways First Class between South Asia and Australia/New Zealand using United miles certainly qualifies as sweet. I’ve personally only flown business class on these routes and still really enjoyed the ground experience in Bangkok. If you’re planning a trip to this part of the world, be sure to book before November 1st. Mile Value has the details.

While it had previously been announced that most uses of Plastiq for 3X with the AT&T Access More card were dying off, Harlan at Out and Out reminds us that it ain’t over ’till it’s over….and he’s not convinced that it’s over. It would be nice if he’s right!

Between the recently improved Citi Thank You Premier 50K offer and the coming Citi Prestige 75K offer, many readers might suddenly be coming into some new Thank You points. Of course, those points can be transferred to Qantas. Matt Moffitt of Point Hacks gives us an overview of some good uses of 60K Qantas miles — just keep in mind that when he mentions the “East Coast” or “West Coast”, he means of Australia.
