Hilton’s latest promotion offers all members double base points on stays from September 1, 2017 to December 31st, 2017. Diamond members get an additional 10,000 points after every 10 nights (up to 50K). You must register before your stay to take part in the promo, so I recommend clicking the link below and registering now before you forget.

The Deal

  • Double base points on all stays from September 1st, 2017 to December 31st, 3017
  • Additional targeted bonus for Diamond Members
  • Direct link to the promotion

Key terms

  • Double points only applies to base points (so 20X per $1 at most full-service Hilton brands, though note that some of the limited-service brands award fewer points).
  • Points are only received for nights completed during the promotional period (Sept 1-December 31st)

Quick Thoughts

Promotions like this keep me coming back to Hilton, though my recent findings on their troubles with mathematics make me a bit less enthusiastic. Still, earnings should look like this:

10x base points
10x double base points
5x if you choose points & points as your earning style
2.5x Gold member bonus / 5x Diamond member bonus
27.5x-30x depending on whether you are Gold or Silver

And those numbers are before points earned from a credit card. With the Amex Hilton Surpass earning 12x on Hilton spend, a Diamond Member paying with the Hilton Surpass is earning 42 points per dollar total with this promotion — and that’s before the additional bonus points (10K for each 10 nights up to 50K). Then there is the 500 point bonus for booking through the app or cash back if you’re booking through a shopping portal. On top of all that, there are a couple of Amex Offers out for Hilton: one for 15% off a weekend stay plus 5K bonus Hilton points (expires 10/17/17) and one for 3500 Membership Rewards points on a stay of $300 or more (though this second offer would require forgoing 12X with the Surpass). Even though each point is only worth about $0.004, it adds up to a decent amount — at that value, 42x is worth about 16.8% back towards a future stay. Stack with a couple of the other offers and that’s not a bad return on spend.

Whether you plan to take advantage of this promotion or not, I suggest taking a moment to register — all you need to do is input your Hilton Honors number and password. You never know when you’re going to get stuck somewhere overnight on a delayed flight and be walking through your hotel door a few minutes past midnight for a $450 stay that should be covered by your Citi Prestige trip delay protection — and you want to make sure you get the entire boatload of points in that case (glad I remembered to register for this past quarter’s bonus as I walked in the door!). While Hilton has its drawbacks, it does provide a sizable return on spend.
