This morning’s Portal Alerts showed Macy’s has increased to 10x through a couple of shopping portals. Clicking through to CashBackMonitor.com, we can see that Macys.com is offering 10x Ultimate Rewards points:
The fourth quarter bonus category for Chase Freedom cards includes department stores, meaning you should be able to earn an additional 5x on top of the portal payout (on up to $1500 in total 4th quarter bonus category spend) for a total of 15x.
Interestingly, my Ink Plus account does not show the same payout, only offering 5x at Macy’s:
That is consistent with what is being reported at CashBackMonitor, but it’s worth noting if you do not have a Freedom that you would want to buy through a Sapphire account over an Ink account so that you can still earn 10x.
Alternatively, United Mileage Plus is offering 10x today also.
These are very nice payouts for Macy’s. Checking the 15-month history at CashBackMonitor, it looks like the highest cash back payout in the past 15 months was 16% and the highest mileage payout was 15x through United & American, though both were only 1-day specials (mileage payouts are normally 10x or less). The highest offered by Chase in the past 15 months was been 6x. Today’s offer that could be up to 15x with the Chase Freedom 4th quarter bonus is clearly more valuable than any of those payouts over the past year plus. If you have a purchase planned at Macy’s, this payout could be a nice return on spend.
