6% back at Walmart for Thanksgiving & Black Friday

I received a mailer today from Synchrony Bank for a special offer on my Walmart Credit Card good for 3% cash back on Walmart Pay purchases in-store from November 1-December 31st. More interesting than that, the mailer also advertises 6% cash back at Walmart.com and on Walmart Pay purchases on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday (11/23 & 11/24) with my Walmart Credit Card. I know that the Walmart Credit Card may not be in everyone’s wallet, and it’s possible that this is a targeted offer (though it only says “exclusively for Walmart Cardholders), but if you have the card be on the lookout for the mailer as it’s hard to beat 6% back on Black Friday — and 3% back in-store isn’t bad either if you don’t have another 3% back option.

The Deal

  • 3% cash back on Walmart Pay purchases in Walmart stores with your Walmart Credit Card from November 1-December 31st, 2017
  • 6% cash back at Walmart.com and on Walmart Pay purchases and 2% cash back at Walmart stores on November 23rd & 24th, 2017

Quick Thoughts

The first thing that sticks out on this offer is that 6% back on Walmart.com and Walmart Pay for Thanksgiving and Black Friday looks like a great deal. That will just about mitigate sales tax for most people before adding any shopping portal rewards. I don’t see any exclusions or caps on the mailer.

Further, 3% back on Walmart Pay purchases at Walmart stores with your Walmart Credit Card sure isn’t bad. You could also earn 3% in year 1 of an Alliant Cashback Visa or with a year 1 double up with Discover, but this is a nice third option (and a good one for me since I’m neither in the first year of a Discover card nor do I have the Alliant card).

You won’t find this card in our Top 10+ Cedit Card offers, but we all start somewhere, and my credit journey started with a Walmart credit card. Of note, I have the Walmart Mastercard — I don’t know if this offer would apply to the store-only card. tough there are pictures of both cards on the mailer.

My Discover is Amazon and Target, but my Chase Freedom is Walmart 5%.

Is this sponsored by Walmart? Nobody has this card because it sucks and most churners will choose 5x Freedom over 6% cash any day of the week. Tell Greg to post more often, please… his posts are much more valuable.

The WMT store card (not sure about the Visa) can be used to liquidate VGC. With each store purchase using the WMT card, you have the option of withdrawing up to $100 cash (limit of $100/day). The cash withdrawal is treated as a purchase, not a cash advance. Afterwards, use a VGC to pay the store card bill.

Result: withdraw $100/day… pay bill with VGC

My only question is, when you signed up for the walmart card, did you get to pick which 2 bottles of soda you wanted, or did they pick them for you?

My statement closed a few days ago and I noticed I got 3% CB when I used WMPay app at the SCO on 11/2. This is a promising for “enterprising spenders”, nuff said ; )

fyi… the WMT store card can be used as a method to get cash from VGC.

The WMT store card allows cash withdrawals of $100/day when making a store purchase. The cash withdrawal is treated as a purchase (not a cash advance). Pay the WMT store card bill with a VGC… voila! VGC is converted into cash.

p.s. don’t most MS-ers know about this? or am I alone?

I had our WM synchrony CC sock drawered for a long time until I got email from them to see the new features on their website. I saw up to $100 CB allowed and post as purchase so that’s what I’ve been doing with small item purchases. Then When my bill reaches $500 or more, I pay with a VGC at any register lane.

Seems like Synchrony is trying to entice people with their cards to take them out of the sock drawer…LOL
