Happy holiday weekend! This week at Frequent Miler, we tackled topics ranging from how to avoid basic economy when paying with points to which of the best Platinum benefits are available to additional cardholders. We also added a great quick reference tool for Amex Offers that you’ll want to bookmark for the next time you’re about to make a purchase and want to quickly know whether or not there’s an Amex Offer for that. All that and more in this Frequent Miler Week in Review.

Chase now lets you exclude Basic Economy! Amex excludes it automatically.

Transferable points are valuable for their flexibility. Whether you want to fly in a suite on a plane or jet off to Europe in economy class at the last minute, your points can be adapted to fit your needs. In a further extension of that, we note that Chase now lets you decide whether or not to include Basic Economy options in search results. That’s great as it gives you the option to choose and easily compare. How about booking with your Amex Membership Rewards or US Bank FlexPerks or Citi ThankYou points? See the post for a quick overview of each with regard to booking (or excluding) basic economy.

We strive to maintain the key information on all of the best card offers on the market and do so in a concise format that’s good for quick reference. Greg recently added some easily digestible bits on a number of Capital One credit cards. While Capital One might not offer the flashiest card benefits, they have a number of cards with good signup bonuses and simple earning structures — two benefits that might mean more to some that elite statuses and lounge access.

Greg has created a fantastic Frequent Miler resource — a sortable table that will contain all of the currently-available Amex Offers along with expiration dates. This is an excellent quick-reference resource that is especially helpful if you have multiple Amex cards and logins. You’ll still have to log in to your accounts to add offers — but bookmark this page now so you can have a quick-reference resource when you’re shopping and just want to know if there’s an offer available on something you’re about to buy.

Do you pay the annual fee on an airline credit card just to get free checked bags? Depending on how many times per year you use that benefit, you might come out better by letting this no-annual-fee card pick up the tab. If you regularly pay airline incidentals, this card could be an easy $100 win year after year. Read on for details about a mailer you might not want to overlook.
