Will the Office Depot / Office Max promo stack? YMMV

6

Office Depot and Office Max are offering $10 off $100 or more on select gift cards right now. This might stack with an additional 10% back with Visa Savings Edge “Activate Offers”. While the Visa Savings Edge offer gives 10% back (this is capped at $5 per card, though you may be able to split tender over multiple cards — more on that below).

Quick Thoughts

This discount isn’t particularly notable on its own with the included brands. However, if you can stack with one of the Best Category Bonuses and with Visa Savings Edge “Activate Offers” (See our post: New “Activate Offers” from Visa SavingsEdge), it might not be a bad deal if you need a card for one of the included brands. Note that we don’t yet have datapoints of the Visa Savings Edge Activate Offers working with gift card purchases, though they aren’t explicitly included in the terms. That offer is good for 10% back up to a maximum of $5 per enrolled card. If you have multiple business Visa cards, I imagine you could split tender to get another $9 back for a net cost of $81. Finally, you could earn 2% rewards per quarter on up to $200 in gift card purchases with the Office Max / Office Depot rewards program (good for another $1.80 back). In the end, if you’re able to split tender over two business Visa cards, your net cost would look like this:

  $100 gift card
– $10 instant savings
  –  $9 Visa Savings Edge (YMMV)
$81 net cost
Rewards earned: $1.80 Office Max / Office Depot / Up to 450 Ultimate Rewards points (if paying with two Ink Plus / Ink Cash cards)

Again, the Visa Savings Edge component is YMMV since we don’t have a good mass of datapoints yet. However, if that works, this sale might make sense for you. Otherwise, the discounts probably aren’t strong enough.
