Earlier today, we posted a quick deal for 4x Fuel Points on gift cards at Kroger (See: 4x fuel points on Visa, Mastercard, and other gift cards at Kroger). In response, a reader reached out to ask if this would stack with an offer out from Gas Buddy and Shop Your Way Rewards, good for $0.50 back per gallon in Sears cash back points through Memorial Day if you sign up by 3/25/18. I don’t know the answer, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t. At the very least, this is an interesting promotion — though it won’t stack with credit card rewards since you’ll be paying with a linked checking account. Still, if you value Sears points at anywhere near face value, this could be a worthwhile deal.
- Sign up by 3/25/18 with Gas Buddy to get $0.50 / gallon back on Shop Your Way Rewards on fillups through 5/28/18, then $0.15/ gallon
- Click here for direct link to promotion
- Must sign up between 3/19/18 and 3/25/18
- Can spend up to $75 per day or $300 per week using Pay with Gas Buddy
- See promotion page for other terms & details
I haven’t personally signed up with Pay With Gas Buddy. The process seems to work like this: you link a checking account to Pay With Gas Buddy and then Gas Buddy sends you a card to pay at the pump. It doesn’t appear to be branded with Visa/Mastercard/etc, but Gas Buddy claims it works with “95% of stations”. There is a video explaining it on the promotion page linked above.
It’s hard to say what the compatability is going to be, but Gas Buddy says it will work with a variety of brands. That means it might stack with programs like Kroger Fuel Points or other fuel rewards programs. It’s hard to say for sure as I haven’t used it — but if $0.50 per gallon in Shop Your Way Rewards sounds interesting to you, it might be worth checking out. As you’d be paying through a linked checking account, you would be losing out on credit card rewards, but the returns here could outweigh those.
Keep in mind that Sears is always rumored to be in a tenuous position, so I wouldn’t plan to hold onto the points. According to the terms, points will credit to your Shop Your Way account within 24 hours, so you’ll have the points quickly at the very least.
