Avianca LifeMiles is offering a 25% transfer bonus on miles converted from hotel programs, though your bonus miles are capped and ratios from most programs aren’t very good. This one probably only makes sense for transfers from SPG.

The Deal

Key Details

  • Valid for transfers through May 6, 2018
  • Transfers from SPG capped at a max of 94,999 transferred points / Marriott capped at 140K transferred points

Quick Thoughts

Qualifying partners include:

  • Marriott
  • IHG
  • Hilton
  • Le Club Accor
  • SPG
  • Wyndham Rewards

That said, the transfer ratios on most of them are awful. The only option that really makes sense is SPG since 20,000 SPG miles normally transfer to 25,000 LifeMiles. With the 25% bonus, you’d get 31,250 LifeMiles. That’s pretty good, especially when you consider some of the LifeMiles sweet spots (See: Avianca LifeMiles’ awesome mixed-cabin award pricing. First Class for less.). That said, Avianca often sells miles for 1.4 cents each or sometimes even less. If you were able to buy 31,250 LifeMiles at 1.4 cents each, they would cost you $437.50. That’s certainly not a bad value in exchange for 20K SPG points. At a value of about 2.19 cents per point, it’s ever so slightly higher than our Reasonable Redemption Value for SPG points (2.16 cents per point) — meaning it’s certainly reasonable, but not terrific. Of course, if you have a valuable use for the miles, you might like this transfer.

Normally, Marriott’s Travel Packages are a great use of transfer bonuses. However, since LifeMiles caps the 25% bonus on 140K transferred Marriott Rewards points, I’m not even sure exactly how the bonus would post.

As always, we have added this transfer bonus to our Current point transfer bonuses page.
