Following the recent Staples promotion offering Mastercard gift cards with no activation fee, they have a new offer out today on Visa gift cards.

Staples Fee Free Visa Gift Cards

The Deal

  • No purchase fee (normally $6.95) when you buy a $200 Visa gift card.

Key Terms

  • Valid May 6, 2018 to May 12, 2018
  • In store only
  • Limit 1 per customer

Quick Thoughts

These Visa gift cards with no activation fee are a great way to rack up spending on cards offering 5x / 5% at office supply stores. That includes Chase Ink Plus (5x Ultimate Rewards), Chase Ink Cash and American Express SimplyCash Plus Business credit cards (both 5% cashback).

Regarding the latter card though, Doctor of Credit has reported recently that the SimplyCash Plus Business card might not be earning 5% on gift card purchases from Staples or Office Depot/Office Max. If you have one of the above listed Chase Ink cards, it’d probably be better to use one of those.

The limit’s one per customer, although there are ways round that limit. Visiting on different days, visiting multiple stores or having a friendly cashier can all help you rack up more 5x / 5% spend.

Read Dr of Credit recent Staples MC post. There is an interesting potentially more profitable detail.

I’ll test it today.

Not a single $200 Visa gift card in local Staples near me. Argh!

Assume only the $200 card works, not some combination of lower amounts? Stores were already out of the $200 cards Monday night in my area when I went looking.
