Cheap business class Europe to USA (~$650 one-way)

9

TAP Air Portugal is once again offering cheap business class tickets from Europe to the USA, with the best prices out of Oslo to New York, Boston, and Miami and excellent prices also available out of other departure cities including Copenhagen and Budapest (and more possible). This sale can be a great way to combine an award ticket to Europe with a paid ticket home since these fares are available one-way. Using Ultimate Rewards at 1.5c each would make a one-way ticket available for just over 43,000 Chase URs. Those who hold the Business Platinum card from American Express would pay a little less yet at a net cost of just over 42,000 Membership Rewards points after the Business Platinum pay-with-points 35% rebate.

I flew TAP Air Portugal’s business class from Lisbon to Boston last year and it was pretty nice.

The Deal

  • Cheap one-way business class from Oslo, Budapest, Copenhagen, and more to New York, Boston, and Miami on TAP Air Portugal, with prices starting from $647 one-way (and availability stretching from September 2018 to May 2019)
  • Use Google Flights to find available dates

Quick Thoughts

As shown in the image above, I flew TAP Air Portugal last year and I was impressed. The new flat bed seats were comfortable and spacious. The wine list was pretty extensive and the catering was solid. Service was better than I expected based on things I’d read before flying – overall, I said I’d certainly fly it again if the price were right, and the current prices fit. Read more about my experience here: An equipment swap gone right.

While TAP Air Portugal has been running good prices on these routes for some time, this seems notable for both a particularly good price at $647 one-way and how widely available it is. Cheap prices are available almost daily from February through early spring.

Availability is spottier from September through January, but nearly every week has at least a couple of days at the cheapest prices.

It’s easiest to find availability through Google Flights. For a quick primer on using Google flights, see: How to find great business class fares using Google Flights.

As noted at the top, these flights should be available through the credit card travel portals — using just 43,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards for one-way business class between Europe and the USA is a better deal than what most programs charge, and you’ll earn miles to boot.
