BP and United teamed up a few months ago to offer bonus United miles when filling your gas tank rather than earning fuel discounts through BP Driver Rewards. For a limited time, you can earn up to 500 bonus miles when joining the scheme, linking a card and purchasing fuel.

Key Terms
- To earn the 200 mile bonus, you must make a fuel transaction at a participating BP station that earns MileagePlus awards miles. Limit one bonus per account, per person for a maximum bonus of 200 miles.
- Limit one 300 mile bonus per account. Members who have already earned 200 bonus award miles in connection with the standard bonus offer are not eligible for this additional bonus offer. Excludes BP Credit Card or BP Visa Credit Card.
Quick Thoughts
I wasn’t too familiar with BP Driver Rewards as I used to fill up at Kroger thanks to their regular 4x fuel points offers. For the past few months, we’ve moved over to filling up at Shell thanks to the discounts you receive for being a member of IHG Rewards Club, the frequent 25c per gallon discounts from T-Mobile Tuesdays and stocking up on Shell gift cards at a 20% discount from the Lowe’s Amex Offer.
We’re on a 50 state road trip and there’s been a few times in recent months where there have been no Shell gas stations within 100 miles, so a couple of times we’ve ended up having to fill up at BP. I’d not registered for BP Driver Rewards yet, but will be signing up thanks to this promotion.
The bonus comes in two parts – 200 miles and 300 miles – but it’s straightforward to earn both amounts. Simply register, select MileagePlus, link a card and purchase fuel by August 23, 2018. You’ll earn 2 miles per gallon on up to 20 gallons in addition to the bonus miles.
Earning United miles appears to be a better option than selecting to get fuel discounts with BP Driver Rewards. With that option, you get a 10c per gallon discount on one fill up of up to 20 gallons once you’ve spent $100. That means the maximum discount you’ll get is $2 once you’ve spent more than $100, given that the discount’s applied after you’ve spent the $100. I prefer Shell Fuel Rewards as you get discounts on every single gallon that you ever purchase.
The Chase Freedom card might be a good option for a linked card seeing as gas stations are one of this quarter’s 5% categories.
If you have any American Express business cards with the Staples or Lowe’s Amex Offer, you could also pick up BP gift cards at a 10% discount from those stores. You’ll still need to have a credit card linked to your BP Driver Rewards account in order to earn the 500 bonus miles, but it doesn’t have to be the actual payment method.

It looks like that you can’t received 300 additional bonus for only one-time purchase?
It’s up to 300 additional miles for each dollar you’ve spent.
The terms of the offer had been 300 bonus miles after your first purchase, but I’m not sure if the deal’s been pulled or not. The link in the post has never specifically mentioned the 300 bonus miles, but it’s the link provided in the email they sent to us.
i don’t see anything about the extra 300 miles after clicking the link…is this already dead?
The link hasn’t ever showed the extra 300 miles, so the deal’s hopefully still alive.
To get the full 500 miles, do you need to register for a promotion. Airlines and hotels often have promotions that you need to register or you won’t get the bonus.
There wasn’t any particular code to enter for this – I received the offer via email and clicked through from that.

I am so stupid that I do not understand the post. How can you get 500 miles? The section called “The Deal” says basically that you get 200 miles if you sign up and 300 more if you make a gas purchase. However, the “Key Terms” section says you can only get either 200 or 300.
The BP website doesn’t clear things up. They only mention 200 miles and you must buy gas but they don’t mention August 23rd.
The 200 bonus miles is the standard signup bonus which has been offered for the past few months. Where it says that you can’t earn the 300 miles if you’ve already earned the 200 miles, it’s referring to people who’d already registered with BP Driver Rewards in the past. If this is your first time signing up, you’ll get the initial 200 miles, along with the additional 300 miles so long as you purchase fuel by August 23.
Got 1,000 mile offer here too and also a credit card holder. Website doesn’t seem to be working to register though – nothing happens after filling everything out and hitting “join” at the bottom.
That’s strange – it worked for me, although it took a few seconds to do anything after hitting Join. Did you use the link they sent you by email or the one I gave in the post?
My wife who has a chase united card got an offer for 1000 miles. I don’t ha e united card and got the 500 mile offer.
Interesting – I wonder if there are any other targeted offers out there, or if it’s only differentiated by credit card members.
