[Update 8/14/19]: This deal is back again for those who haven’t done it, 8/14/19 only. Note that you may have a Chase Offer for 10% back at Blue Apron (up to $9 back) or an Amex Offer for 10% back on meal delivery kits (up to $20 back) that should stack with Ibotta for further profit. Cancel at any time (even after your first shipment if you’re not interested in continuing). I believe the pop-up for $50 off your first two orders likely still comes up, though it didn’t on my phone (likely because I’ve done the deal before) – YMMV. Should come out at least a few bucks ahead either way. While this wasn’t our favorite prepped meal service, it’s worth trying if you can do so at no cost. (H/T: Doctor of Credit)

[Update 8/6/19] This deal has come and gone often, but it’s back tonight (8/6 only, just a few hours left) with $50 cash back for new Blue Apron subscribers. (H/T: Doctor of Credit)

[Update 10/25/18]: The Ibotta app is now offering $47.50 cash back for a Blue Apron purchase. I did receive the cash back on the $42 offer described below and posted in July — this deal is $5 better and is available today only (and only for your first purchase from Blue Apron). H/T: Doctor of Credit

There’s a deal out through cash back / coupon app Ibotta to get $42 cash back with a new account sign up through Blue Apron. Reports indicate that this can be stacked with a Blue Apron new account sign up coupon to end up $19 ahead and score some free food (as long as you remember to cancel). Note that the terms state that the $42 cash back is not valid with discounts, but the discount pops up when clicking through to Ibotta and reports indicate that cash back is tracking on this. Ibotta is running increased cash back at a number of stores that they are billing as a “Christmas in July”, with up to 3x Cash Back.

The Deal

  • Use Ibotta to score $42 cash back at Blue Apron (new Blue Apron account sign ups only)
  • Use Blue Apron new account signup bonus that pops up to save $25 on your first order
  • Total net cost from $23 – $42 cash back = $19 profit (or less if you choose a higher package)
  • If you do not yet have an Ibotta account, feel free to sign up with my referral link with my thanks.

Quick Thoughts

This looks like a pretty nice promotion as you’ll end up with free food and a little profit or a pretty low net cost for some free food.

While the key terms above indicate that the offer is not valid with discounts, the deal is tracking with the Blue Apron discount applied.

Note that while I do not see this offer on the Ibotta website, I see it in the app. If you do not yet have an Ibotta account, feel free to sign up with my referral link with my thanks (In the past, you would have gotten $10 after earning $10 in cash back. I’m not sure if that offer is still active. If it is, this offer ought to trigger that additional $10 as well).

Once you pull up the Ibotta app, you should see the 3X Christmas in July ad. If you don’t, refresh the home page in the app a few times and you should see it in the top ad bar.

Once you click that promotion, you’ll see a list of “Christmas in July” offers. Scroll down and you should find the Blue Apron offer.

Clicking “shop” will take you to Blue Apron. When you get to Blue Apron, the offer to save $50 over your first two orders should pop up right at the top like this (the app wouldn’t allow me to take screen shots at Blue Apron, so I apologize for the lower qualify images from here on out) – see where it says “Redeem Offer” near the top:

That will take $25 off of each of your first two orders. Here were the prices for 2 people / 4 people after the $25 comes off of the first week:

The money maker is 2 recipes for 2 people for $22.95. After $42 cash back, you would have made $19.05. Just don’t forget to cancel (which you can do online right here).

Personally, I took the 4-person 2-meal option. After cash back, it will have cost me less $5 for two meals for 4 people. I can live with that. New Ibotta customers would end up with another $10 back if signing up through a referral.

I’ve had meals from Blue Apron before. I don’t love them, but for five bucks they certainly won’t be bad. My Ibotta account shows the $42 pending despite the discount from Blue Apron.

Bottom line

While the terms indicate that the $42 cash back might not post with another discount, it looks like it probably will. Of course, there is some element of risk and I suggest you consider whether or not you’re willing to risk the cash back failing to post. I was willing to give this one a shot as I think it’ll work out to be a great deal even if the food isn’t amazing.
