Staples.com is selling $100 Mastercard gift cards for $101.95 – a discount of $5 off the activation fee for online orders. Note that this offer is only available for Staples Plus members, a membership which costs $49 per year.

Edit: As per a comment below, it appears that this offer is open to everyone, not just those with a Staples Plus membership.

Staples $100 Mastercard Gift Cards

The Deal

  • Buy $100 Mastercard gift card on Staples.com for $101.95.
  • Direct link (but try using a cashback portal).

Key Terms

  • Online only.

Quick Thoughts

This is a good discount on activation fees as the $100 Mastercard gift cards usually come with a $6.95 activation fee. As noted in the Key Terms above though, this discount is only available to Staples Plus members – a membership that costs $49.

If you or your business has a Staples Plus membership, buying the limit of three Mastercard gift cards will save you $15 in activation fees. If you have the Staples Amex Offer for 10% off at Staples, you’ll end up with $300 of gift cards for only $275.27 – much better savings than this week’s Office Depot Visa gift card sale. Alternatively, pay with a Chase Ink card to earn 1,529 Ultimate Rewards which will more than offset the $5.85 in activation fees.

It’s not worth buying the $49 membership solely for this deal, but Staples Plus offers member pricing on five items of your choice. If you regularly purchase the same office supplies from Staples, that membership fee could pay for itself pretty quickly, making this Mastercard gift card deal more worthwhile.

What’s the best way to liquidate MCGCs these days?

Krish

Plastiq

dave

The same way you’ve always been doing it.

SDO

Well, I had been doing it with USPS, but that doesn’t work so well these days does it? Also, too much trouble with such small denominations for MOs.

Last I heard people were having fraud or error issues with MGCs, but that was months ago. Is the caution flag still out on these? Some in past were conpromised cards.I haven’t been to a Staples even for my regular office supply since they seemed to have stopped VGC discounts/rebates.

The real value of the Staples Plus membership is that you can turn in 20 inkjet cartridges a month @ $2 each in Staples credit. $480 a year. You do have to spend $30 every six months on printer toner or ink.

dave

480 Staples dollars a year, which is far from real cash, that have to be used up each month. And you would get 240 of them without staples plus anyway. You also need to have 240 ink cartridges, and although there are ways to gather them, few people have free ways.

toomanybooks

I have 1200 inkjet cartridges.

And free is free. Always can use office supplies. Ebay them if nothing else.

dave

There are very few people that happen to have 1200 inkjet cartridges lying around every year. Most people are paying. The math might work for you (and as of now it works for me) but for most people not worth it.

No need of Staples Plus membership. I was able to buy by login to my staples account

Eugene

Same. No need. Transaction went through without it.
