How to convert Hawaiian miles to Wyndham points, and vice versa

3

I stumbled across an interesting hack for moving points between Hawaiian Airlines and Wyndham at a 2 to 1 ratio. That is, you can turn 2 Hawaiian miles into 1 Wyndham point or 2 Wyndham points into 1 Hawaiian Airlines mile. Here’s how.

Wyndham to Hawaiian 2 to 1

Wyndham’s website offers to let you convert your Wyndham points to Hawaiian Airlines miles at a rate of 6,000 Wyndham points to 1,200 Hawaiian Miles.  That’s not a good deal.  You can do better.

Via the Wyndham Rewards and Caesar’s Total Rewards partnership, it’s possible to move points from one to another at a 1 to 1 transfer rate.  And Caesar’s let’s you transfer points to Hawaiian 2 to 1.  So:

  1. Transfer Wyndham points to Total Rewards 1 to 1 (Max 30,000 points per year).  This can be done online.  Details here.
  2. Transfer Total Rewards points to Hawaiian 2 to 1.  Unfortunately, this can only be initiated in-person at a Total Rewards Center at one of the following locations: Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Flamingo Las Vegas, The LINQ Hotel & Casino, Paris Las Vegas, Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Bally’s Las Vegas, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Harrah’s Phoenix Ak-Chin Details here.

Hawaiian to Wyndham 2 to 1

Hawaiian airlines supports miles to points transfers with two partners: Hilton (1 to 1.5) and Caesar’s Total Rewards (2 to 1).

Thanks to the partnership between Hawaiian and Caesar’s, it’s possible to convert Hawaiian Miles to Wyndham points 2 to 1:

  1. Convert Hawaiian Miles to Total Rewards points 2 to 1, in 5,000 point increments.  This can be done by calling 1-877-HAMILES (426-4537) or via an online form or online chat (the latter two options can be found here by clicking “Redeem for Points”)
  2. Convert Total Rewards points to Wyndham points 1 to 1 (Max 30,000 points per year).  This can be done online.  Details here.

My Take

I’m not saying this is a good idea…

I think that it will be rare to get great value by transferring points in either direction since the transfer cuts your point total in half.  That said, it is sometimes possible to find fantastic deals with Wyndham points since rewards are capped at 15,000 points per night.  So, if you have a stash of Hawaiian Miles and need extra Wyndham points for a high value reward, go for it.

Note that I have not done any of the transfers described above so I don’t know how long the transfers take, nor am I aware of any gotchas that might occur
