20x Alaska Miles at Gilt City, American 21x, other airlines offering similar payouts

Reader Clint emailed us earlier today to bring a great deal to our attention: Many airline portals are payout out over 20x miles per dollar today at Gilt City — including American (21x), United (20x), Alaska (20x), and Delta (20x). This can be combined with new customer promo code WELCOME20 for 20% off of your first order.

The Deal

  • Big payouts on Gilt City purchases via the portals shown above
  • 20% off for first time customers using code WELCOME20
  • Update: Reader al613 points out that you can get 30% off when paying with an Amex card with code AMEX30. While this code isn’t shown on the shopping portal sites, it may stack. See the full terms of that offer by clicking here.

Key Terms

  • Portal terms exclude the following:

Please note these terms & conditions: For Gilt Groupe purchases (Gilt Women, Men, Baby & Kids and Home), please click through the separate Gilt Groupe store listing. Gilt Travel, Gilt Groupe Women, Men, Baby & Kids and Home purchases are not eligible through Gilt City. Not eligible on Special Offers. Not eligible on RSVP offers. Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site.

Quick Thoughts

Gilt City is kind of like a Groupon for “higher-end” goods, restaurants, and services. They have both national and city-specific deals. As noted in the key terms above, the portals exclude Gilt Travel purchases and the general Gilt Groupe Women, Gilt Groupe Men, etc. That said, there are some interesting options in some cities I checked that may be worth a look when considering the value of the miles.

With just a glance at the Alaska Airlines shopping portal, I saw a link on the Gilt City page of the Alaska portal to a deal for $50 in Goldbely credit for $30. I also saw the code WELCOME20 listed on the Alaska Airlines shopping portal.

I went through the Alaska link and put one of the credits in my cart and was able to apply the 20% off code at checkout.

In the end, the $50 credit would cost $24 and earn 480 miles. It would also satisfy the shopping portal requirement in the Dash for Miles challenge – which would also get you 1,000 miles if you haven’t yet completed it (don’t forget to register first).

This is just one example. I’ve only once ordered from Goldbely – to send my father a real New York pizza from NYC for Father’s Day (my dad grew up in the city and probably misses the pizza as much as anything else from “home”). It was overpriced and not the finest New York pizza — but it’s the thought that counts, right? All that is to say that I don’t know if Goldbely is worth it, but there might be something else that is worth it to you — and with these payouts, it might be worth taking a look.

Thanks to Clint for pointing this one out!
