Today (Friday, April 13th) at 1pm Eastern time, Daily Getaways will be offering one of the few deals that looks almost universally good: Avis 1-day car rentals for $30 (President’s Club membership will also be available for $750). While there are certainly times when you can rent a car for less than $30 per day, there are also plenty of times when it would represent a nice discount over normal rates. Note the restrictions below before you dive in, but this could definitely be a deal.

Today’s offer for a 1-day Avis rental can certainly be a good deal to pick up if you sometimes run into rental rates that are much higher than $30 per day. You can buy a max of 7 and you can use a max of 7 on a single car rental. Since you can pick a class of car up to Premium (Group G), you can have your pick from compact/economy/full size regular cars.
On the flip side, keep in mind that the certificates are only valid in the US and exclude the New York Metro Area as well as Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. You will also be subject to an expiration policy on this as rentals must be completed by May 15, 2019. Also keep in mind that you will have to pay the usual extra taxes and fees (like airport facility charges) and that your credit card won’t cover rental insurance if you use a certificate like this instead of paying for the rental on your card. It’s not necessarily a deal for everyone, but at periods of high demand this could certainly present some savings.
Finally, since there are only 800 available, we expect that these will sell out quickly. You’ll probably need to pull up the page a few minutes before 1pm Eastern and constantly refresh if you want to get one.
The President’s Club membership for $750 doesn’t look particularly interesting to me. With only 20 available, you’re probably more likely to run into the President of Avis in an elevator and have his/her club membership magically bestowed upon you…but if you’re interested, I’ve included a link under “the deal”.

took a pass on this DG deal too. (nearly all of them are real “yawners” — or come replete with hidden gotchas) In this case, as you appropriately caution, the $30 did NOT include all the taxes, concession fees, and shake-down crap the rental agencies usually tack on to base rates at airports. (often doubling the base price per day — and that’s not counting the high pressure games played to trick folks into paying for insurance… and in this case — as you warn — using a certificate might well necessitate paying for those outrageous daily insurance rates too….)
ps, on the other hand (and quite distinct from the DG nonsense) the annual spring one-way give-away deals are again on. (this time from Florida to anywhere north — that is, anywhere I’ve checked so far, ATL, DCA, RIC, CHO, etc). For example, seeing Budget & Avis quotes for late May under $5 a day, with trivial taxes and NO concession fees for one-way rentals from RSW, FLL, MLB, MIA, PBI, etc. north…. for same car that might be $60/day PLUS TAXES if rented locally)
Anyone know how Daily Getaways Code it looks like the vendor from T&C is U.S. TRAVEL ASSOCIATION I’ve not seen the pending purchase as it is an CIP biz card and pending charges can take 24 hours to show, whereas personal cards show the charge pending sometimes within minutes (but points can only be seen after they post. Either way it will go to the MSR, and can use it either in Canada or Hawaii later this year so from checking for Canada it should be a deal even with T&F from when I checked rentals for BC a few weeks ago/
Are you sure the primary car insurance that Chase SR, SP and Ritz Carlton card offers wouldn’t cover a rental involving the use of certificates? But these are coded as a coupon code so it’s not that different from using the other coupon codes that people regularly use to book a car rental.
I’m curious as well, bought 7 days for Canada or Hawaii usage, more so for Canada as personal Auto insurance is Primary before CC CDW coverage in the US. I just checked the T&C for benefits for SP and CIP(biz) for CDW and the way I read it, as long as the card you purchased Certs for and used the same card when you rent [i.e. you INITIATE the Rental/Reservation with CC and certs] with the code/coupon but you need more to rent i.e CC for incidentals, taxes/fees, fuel charges, difference in prices, etc and when your return the car -like checking out at hotel you settle out and pay for incidentals you COMPLETE the Rental using the same CC) it should be covered, but I would SM Chase and get a confirmation then you have written proof from the SM hopefully you don’t need it. But that Is my plan, but disclaimer I’m not an Attorney nor do I play one on TV or the Internet 😉

Here’s what you need to do:
1. INITIATE and COMPLETE the entire rental transaction using your card
that is eligible for the benefit.
2. Decline the rental company’s collision damage waiver or similar
provision if it is offered to you. The company may refer to the collision
damage waiver as CDW or LDW in their contract or when speaking
with you.
If you accept the collision damage waiver offered by the
rental company, you will not be eligible for Auto Rental CD
Can you use the certificate for O/W rental?
that’s the question. Otherwise this “deal” is pretty useless, and the “hype” is unjustified. Daily rentals from avis rarely cost me more than $30. I have a 3 day weekend rental for 40 this weekend.
