Singapore Airlines is offering a “Spontaneous Escapes” flash sale with award tickets available for 30% off on select routes / in select cabins (including premium economy and business class depending on the route) between Singapore and the US. You need to book by 12/31 for travel during February 2019. The good news is that availability is good and Singapore KrisFlyer is transfer partners with everyone, so it is very easy to amass the points for these awards — though remember that transfers to Singapore KrisFlyer are not instantThey generally take 12-24 hours to transfer, so there is some element of risk — though it looks like availability is quite good on this one.

Business class for 61K miles each way to/from LAX sure doesn’t sound bad

The Deal

Key Terms

  • Book by December 31st for travel February 1-28, 2019 for flights to/from the USA (note that there are also some flights around Asia on sale during January 2019)
  • Discount is reflected when booking online after selecting your chosen flights
  • See promotion page for full terms

Quick Thoughts

There are definitely some good deals here if you have it in mind to fly to/from Singapore during the promotional period. Here is the table from Singapore’s site with redemption rates for premium economy and business class:

a table with numbers and text

As you can see, you can between Singapore and New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles at sale rates in premium economy (this includes the direct New York-to-Singapore flights) or even score a discount on the nonstop Los Angeles service in business class (at 61,600 miles with the promo).

Remember that Singapore no longer adds fuel surcharges to its flights. Since Singapore KrisFlyer is a Chase transfer partner, Amex transfer partner, Citi transfer partner, and Capital One transfer partner (albeit at a poor Ratio from Capital One), it is easy to put together enough miles for these flights. Of course, you’ll want to think about opportunity cost if you’re trying to decide which program to transfer from. See Greg’s post from earlier today – Which points should you transfer to miles? How much does the transfer cost? – for help in deciding which points to transfer.

To check availability, log in to your account at Singapore’s website and simply search for it. Remember that the discounted rates won’t show until you select flights. Alternatively, use a paid tool like Expert Flyer if you have access.

[…] 30% Off Select Singapore Awards in February 2019 […]

David

Any word on whether this will work for one-ways?

David

Thanks Nick!

Frank

My wife and I are flying in premium economy from Singapore to EWR on January 19. We both have enough points to upgrade to Business class with the saver award chart but none available. We did ask that they put us on a wait list in case something comes up between now and then. We also asked if they would put us on a wait list from Singapore to SFO on a couple of different flights on that date or within a couple of dates after that. Doing a mock booking there appears to a good number of seats available on those flights and since we are flexible we are hoping to get notified of an upgrade. Would you think we might get the upgrade on one of those 3 flights? We will travel from JFK to SIN in Suites so we are certainly going to be spoiled on the return trip. Business class returning sure would be nice.
