Application Tips

Bank of America Application Tips

  • 3/12 or 7/12 Rule: You won't be approved if you have opened 3 or more accounts, with any bank, in the past 12 months. For those with Bank of America deposit accounts, the rule changes to 7+ accounts.
  • 2/3/4 Rule: Max 2 consumer cards per rolling 2 months, 3 per rolling 12 months, and 4 per rolling 24 months.
  • 5 card limit: You will not get approved for a new consumer card if you already have 5 consumer BOA cards open
  • Get Same Card Again: With some BOA cards, must wait 24 months after either opening or cancelling, depending upon the card.
  • Hard inquiries are usually combined into 1 when initiated within 30 days but there have been reports of TransUnion not combining.

DP: instant denial. I’m under the 3/12 rule if you count consumer cards but over if you include business cards. Not sure the reason but I have excellent credit and have been approved for Chase and Barclays business cards. Wonder if my Alaska consumer card that I never spend on was a factor? Also, I don’t have any banking relationship to BOA. Anyway, I’ll try the reconsideration line when I get the denial letter

Instant approval with 16k credit limit. Business is SP with 67.5k of sales revenue. I’ve been a consumer banking BofA customer for over 30 years but this is my first business account. Also applied for a personal Alaska Visa at the same time and was also instantly approved. Looks like just one credit inquiry showing up on TA for both applications.

David

Instant denial even though I have an open Bank of America business advantage checking account… have only opened up 3 personal credit cards in the last year… thought I would be approved?!

Foomb

Was initially denied–had to call recon twice before approval. Am 3/12 but got it pushed through, last opened account was >10mo ago…

David

Glad to hear. Was just instant denied even w/a BOA Biz checking. Will try recon.

Foomb

I only had personal checking and was auto denied. But went smooth as butter on 2nd try. Good luck!

Anyone have recent success with this card app?

I keep getting a non-helpful “Check and fix errors to continue.” message with nothing highlighted in the application. I tried both Chrome and Safari, both with and without VPN…

RMP

Opened 5 cards from different banks between March 1st to June 5th 2023.
Applied today and got instant approval with $8k credit limit. I’m not a BOA customer.

All personal cards?

Sayeed

Does having 5 BOA consumer cards open mean it doesn’t include business cards?

cyntax

If you are over the 3/12 level but under 7/12 and want to apply for the AS biz card, do you need to have a business deposit account at BoA to increase the limit from 3/12 to 7/12 or does a personal BoA deposit account work?

Jason Gill

The business card is asking for an ”
Event employee ID *”. Does anyone know what should be put there?

Tim Steinke

Any random 6-digit number

Any word on expiration date for 65k offer?

blake

65k offer requires an employee ID/code

Tim Steinke

Yep, same thing as the personal card. Any random 6-digit number works.

blake

Oh got it, thanks for that!

Ed Dee

Reconsideration numbers do not seem to work anymore. Is there one that works?

Nipun

This offer no longer exists, its back at 50k miles

“3/12 or 7/12 Rule: You won’t be approved if you have opened 3 or more accounts, with any bank, in the past 12 months.”

Is this apply to both personal and business card? I opened several Chase cards last 12 months.

Greg The Frequent Miler

Yes it applies to business cards as well.

Mr. Seg

since chase does not report business cards, will they count towards the 3/12?
