Amex Platinum adds Lufthansa lounge access

2

American Express has added a new benefit for Platinum cardholders: Lufthansa Lounge access in the Terminal 2 satellite at Munich airport. While this benefit is only available in a single airport as of now, it’s great to see the Global Lounge Collection expanding. This change is about a month late for me as I flew economy class through Munich last month and would have certainly used the lounge if I could have.

I did visit this Lufthansa lounge in Munich back in January, and it was comfortable and the food was solid.

The lounges you can access are found in the Amex mobile app. Just log in and choose “Membership” from the menu and then “Find a Lounge”. It shows that you have several options, including both Senator lounges and both Business lounges in the Terminal 2 Satellite (which I’ve been at twice this year flying in from Newark):

Note that for access to the Senator lounges, you’ll need to be a Platinum cardholder and flying business class. For access to the business class lounges, you’ll just need a same-day boarding pass on Lufthansa, Swiss, or Austrian. See the terms of access for each lounge in the app.

Centurion cardholders will also have access to the first class lounge, though I can’t see if there are any further associated terms as I am not a Centurion cardholder.

Bottom line

While this addition is certainly limited in breadth and therefore usefulness at this point, it’s nice to see some expansion of the lounge access component of Platinum cards. For those curious, this applies to both Personal and Business Platinum cardholders.
