American Express has increased the sign-up bonus on the Hilton HHonors Surpass card to 80,000 points after $3,000 in spending during the first three months. The $75 annual fee is not waived.

Normally the bonus on this card is 60,000 points after the same amount of spending. It has gone as high as 85,000 points in the past. Keep in mind that American Express limits you to one bonus per lifetime on personal cards, so you won’t be eligible for the bonus on this card if you have had it previously.

Card Benefits

  • HHonors gold status. (Reach Diamond with $40,000 in annual spending.)
  • 12X points at Hilton properties.
  • 6X  points at restaurants, supermarkets and gas stations.
  • 3X point on all other purchases.

You can find the application link on our Best Signup Offers page.

one bonus per lifetime on personal cards = 1 bonus for every particular card or 1 bonus even if you jump around and apply for different branded cards ?

Got it. Thanks, Shawn! The extra 80,000 points will go well with my new Diamond status. Woo Hoo.

Is gold status granted when you open the card (or within a few days) or once you meet the min spend? Got a stay coming up and free bfast would be nice!

The Bonus Points are 60,000 not 80,000 as stated on your web site.

Hi Joyce. If you follow the link from the Best Signup Offers page above, you will find that the bonus is 80,000. I just confirmed that it is working.

I spoke with American Express today and was directed to the terms and conditions area on the Best Signup Offers page. It is stated there that the Bonus Points are 60,000. Please check it out. I directed them to your website….to no avail, as the page clearly states 60,000 points.

I’m not sure which link you are clicking, but here is the direct link for the Surpass card from the Best Signup Offers page:

https://www262.americanexpress.com/dapply/web/applycard/us/personal-card/api/hil/hilton-hhonors-surpass-card/hhsc-044

Here are the terms on the application page for that link (Click offer terms to see them for yourself):

Hilton HHonors™ Bonus Points

You can earn 80,000 Hilton HHonors™ Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases on your Card in your first 3 months of Card Membership. Purchases to meet the spend requirement of this offer include those made by both the Basic and Additional Card Members on the Card Account. Purchases to meet the spend requirement of this offer do NOT include fees or interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, purchase of travelers checks, purchase or reloading of prepaid cards, or other cash equivalents. Hilton HHonors Bonus Points will be credited to your Hilton HHonors account 6 – 8 weeks after the spend requirement has been reached. Additional Card Members are not eligible to receive this offer. Bonus Points do not count toward elite tier qualification; for more information, visit http://www.hhonors.com/terms. American Express reserves the right to modify or revoke offer at any time. You can earn 80,000 Hilton HHonors™ Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases on your card in your first 3 months of Card Membership starting from the date your account is approved. In rare instances, your period to spend $3,000 may be shorter than 3 months if there is a delay in receiving your Card. Also, purchases may fall outside of the 3 month period in some cases, such as a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction. (For example, if you buy goods online, the purchase date may be the date the goods are shipped). Hilton HHonors Bonus Points will be credited to your Hilton HHonors account 6-8 weeks after the spend requirement has been reached. For questions regarding your Card account, please call the number on the back of your Card.

I thought this card offered 6X on drugstores as well, but maybe that has changed?

Would it make sense to wait for the regular Amex HHonors card to go back up to 60k bonus with no AF? Seems like if you can wait for that, it beats paying a $75 AF just for an extra 20k points. I know the earning multipliers are a little different, but the no AF makes a big difference.

It could make sense and it has to do with your goals. If you are looking for a nice chunk of points, the Citi no annual fee HHonors Visa Signature has a 75K offer right now as well.
